Looks like University of Florida incoming freshman basketball player Doneal Mack will not be "incoming" after all. Seems Florida has an eligibility requirement the 6-foot-5 guard just couldn't meet, so the Gators released him from his letter of intent. But never fear, SEC basketball fans, because the rumor is that Mack will likely suit up for Kentucky next season.
What a crock.
Shouldn't the NCAA step in and ensure eligibility requirements for athletes are consistent across the board? At the very least, the presidents and athletic directors of all schools should make requirements consistent within their conferences.
As it stands, Florida head coach Billy Donovan and his staff put in a lot of time to land Mack. Now Tubby Smith and the Wildcats will reap the benefit of all those efforts, just because the University of Kentucky has looser academic requirements. For Mack's sake, I hope those in charge at his newfound home will hold him to a higher standard in the college classroom...
