"Pitino said Caracter -- once the most breathlessly hyped youngster in the country -- reported to campus this summer weighing 318 pounds, with 21 percent body fat. He said Caracter has been told to be at 10 percent body fat when practice starts."

And if he's not?
"He can transfer," Pitino said. "I'm too old to put up with that ----."

Joneagin-haven't you been reading this board. All is 100% perfect in Cardinalville. They don't have transfers or problems on their team!! LMMFAO (as knockknee would say)

catfan, for the first time in the history of this board, I agree with you on something. You see, the players that are trying to leave OUR team are the ones that know they will be riding the pine. Whereas the ones trying to leave YOUR team are the few good ones remaining. Big difference. Things couldn't be better in Louisville. I can't say it enough.

Exactly CN, when the top players in the country are tripping over each other and banging down your door, you can set those kinds of standards.

But Tubby wouldn't know about that. He tried "Zero tolerance"...then tried "Ok, just a lil tolerance", then "One more chance tolerance", then "Screw it, do what you want."

You need to remember one thing. He's a power forward. They tend to be a little taller andweigh a little more than those guards Tubby recruits.

I do not care what he is...318 pounds is too much for a basketball player..somebody keep that boy away from the BIG MACS

Shagari Alleyne, Rekalin Sims, Adam Williams. Yeah, that's quite an assortment of talent.

Caracter is supposed to cut his body fat from 21 to 10 in two months? It took Nazr Mohammed a solid year, and he was still overweight when he returned for his sophomore season. All I got to say is, Good luck, Derek. You're gonna need it.

And now you see why Caracter dropped off so steeply in the recruiting rankings in just a year and a half.

If he's really 318, then he'll be no less than 295 in November. There are physiological laws that can't be disturbed. Losing 25-30 pounds for a man his size in just three months is unheard of.

Someone forgot to Tell that to Glen "Big Baby" Davis.

In three months, college basketball's "Big Baby" has dropped nearly 45 pounds, gotten himself into better shape and has improved his quickness and agility.

I don't know if I believe that report. Forty-five pounds?

Even if it's possible, it's not healthy. In fact it's very, very bad for you.

One exception, though--Cameron Mills was made to lose 30 lbs. in one month at his first month under Rick at UK.

I agree he is over weight, but not all centers can weigh in at the 125 lbsthat UK centers do.

Wow, did anyone bother to read the entire article?

Smith doesn't seem to believe that his profile and the recruiting profile of his program are intertwined -- something most of his fellow coaches would probably disagree with. But the fact is, most of the current recruitable athletes were younger than 10 the last time the Wildcats made a Final Four. It might help if they saw or heard from the Kentucky coach more often.

Ouch!

When asked about the possibility of hiring Finney, Smith said, "I don't know nothin' about nothin'." Look for him to become enlightened on that subject later this summer.

Caracter should call Big Baby Davis and see what kind of diet he was on this summer. He has slimmed down considerably.
Of course, there's always Subway! EAT FRESH!

Judging by this thread, Cat fans ar going be surprised when they see Mr. Caracter in person. Keep up the fat posts, I am sure DC needs all the extra motivation.

These are the same people that say Bush is fat. The same Bush that is projected a top 5-10 pick in the NFL draft. the same Bush that is going to flatten their linebacker. If they are fat, I'll take it every day of the week.

Football and basketball bodies are not comparable, though.

Bush has to be thick. He's a bruising back. Girth is in the job description. Caracter's game is as much on the perimeter as it is under the basket, and if you're trying to play on the perimeter at 300 pounds...Well, good luck.

He won't be at 300 pounds, come basketball season. Not if he's playing for Pitino. Wait and See!

I think the difference is that Glen Davis slimmed down in order to make Millions more in the NBA. Is caracter really that motivated I mean if he doesn't loss the weight he will transfer somewhere where they don't care about his weight.

By the way losing that type of weight is possible I have done it before without any type of surgery but it takes a HUGE amount of self restraint and if he allowed himself to get into that shape that fast I don't know if he will be able to get it down to where Pitino wants him.

I've been on a diet for the last two weeks. I want to lose 20 pounds by the end of August. I've lost 10 in 2 weeks, but I've been told that the second 10 is the hardest. No potatoes. I would kill for a big order of French Fries from anywhere. Nothing to drink, except water. I think I could eat about 20 White Castles without taking a breath, right now.:P

Yea dude I lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 pounds but I can't do without my carbs so I pretty much ate Tuna, Salad, and Soup for five months as well as working out two hours a day. Water as you know is essential. I think it really depends on what kind of weight it is as to how fast you can drop it. But you are right that first 10 is generally the easiest especially when you are switching to water from cokes because your body responds so quickly for that change.

You could always do what I did. Break your leg, and the wife won't bring you food.

The best thing I did to lose weight was leaving midnight shift. I've lost aout 40 pounds in the year and half I have been on midnights..

By no means, am I defending DC, but I do remember a project under Pitino that went by the name of Nazr Mohammad. He seemed to turn out quite well and just signed a huge contract with Detroit.
