View Full Version : Best individual player story for this year

Obviously the best team story for this year would be #8. So how about something a little more debatable, the best player's story.
Perhaps Randolph Morris averages a triple double, gets pegged as a big time prospect for the NBA, but opts to stay at Kentucky to honor is pledge to the NCAA to stay 4 years. OrJoe Crawford "sees the light," and maximizes his potential and becomes a first team all-American. Maybe Ramel Bradley gets his passing in good order and revitalizes both the team and the fan base, going to the NBA and becomming one of Kentucky's all time favorites. How about Bobby Perry coming from nowhere and averaging 15 and 8 a game?
My pick: Sheray, in response to the unbelievable amount of crap he gets on message boards and elsewhere, shows everyone else that it really was the tumor that held his play back, and has a monster senior year as the best PF in the SEC.

Good one that would be great (since i was one giving him heat).
Mine would be Perry Stevenson, who I think is going to blow up for us this year, shuts up his critics by averaging a double double his freshman year.

All three of our remaining Juniors smoke Chris Lofton in all stats during both of our regular season meetings, and maybe even the SEC tourney, just for good measure. /forum/images/emoticons/icon_twisted.gif

A stronger, more physical Randolph Morris (thank you very much, Mr. Holsopple) sends the first dunk attempt by Jokiam Noah into the third row at Rupp!

That is a VERY pleasant vision, one I would love to see.

Not sure who will be the story of the year (hopefully, we will have many to choose from at season's end), but I do think Sheray will be good for this team. I do not think he will be an NBA prospect or learn how to fly above the rim, but I think he will be a nice asset.
We all seemed to love Rekalin's early season ability to knock down the open three last year. By season's end, Sheray was knocking down that shot, ala Mark Pope. If Bobby and Sheray continue to show that they must be guarded on the perimeter and if Morris continues to be a presence in the middle that demands a double team, the offensive output of the front court players should cause some problems for opponents.
Assuming Morris welcomes, and recognizes, the quick pass out to the perimeter when he feels a double team, Sheray and Perry should get ample opportunities to demonstrate that their perimeter game must be respected. That could be fun to watch.
With a PG and SG that also can get hot from the perimeter, this team could make teams pay, so long as Morris stays in the game. If Carter is getting stronger and better,as some have reported (time will tell), UK's backup could also create opportunities on the perimeter for the outside shooters.
Factor in that this team has a number of good slashers (Crawford, Meeks, Jasper, and perhaps Perry), as well as the fact that there should be some good passing on the perimeter (even if ballhandling is not as good as last season) and this team could be greatly improved, even though the best athlete has moved on to the pros.
The ability to pass will be key to this year's team. The success that WVU had last season could be a model for this year's team. That team did not have a Rondo. True, the center could knock down shots that Morris can only dream of, but the team relied on moving the ball with precision via the pass. This year's Cats, in addition to ramping up the defense to Tubby standards, must move the ball via the pass.
Defensively, Morris, Sheray and Perry must learn the art of blocking out, however, because none of the above are going to sky above too many SEC forwards and centers.

Joe Crawford, coming full circle from his freshman season, averages 15 points a game and is unanimously named the Southeastern Conference player of the year.

A meatier Jared Carter teams up with Perry Stevenson to lead the SEC in Block shots. Carter chips in with 7 points and nearly 10 boards a game. Morris is SEC POY while Perry and Jodie share the Newcomer award.

15 ppg wont win you an SEC POY
about 20 ppg, several assists, a steal or two, and about 4-5 rebounds wins you SEC POY at his position.
Big baby will probably win just because he is a stat machine.. rebounds.. points.. uncalled fouls etc...

Probably.
Depends on how good the player's respective team is, usually.
If you're scoring 15 ppg the way Tubby rotates players in and out, that's like 25 anywhere else.

Also, our last SEC POY, Keith Bogans, averaged about 15 per.

I find it noteworthy that someone with the username of "blue heaven" would actually describe what that would look like. Beautiful picture!

uncalled fouls....I love it, can we get that as an official stat this year!!!lol
Bogans was the best player on a team that was 16-0 in the SEC. Ussually 15 a game won't get it done, unless you really turn it on in SEC play. Tay won it with 17 a game. Crawford would probably have to get to that level. Morris might win it with 15 a game if he can also get 10 rebounds and a block or two and UK wins the East.
I think any UK player getting the POY would be a great story because it would have to be a huge upset with Lofton, Noah and Big Baby back. I think there is a good chance Morris can get it but Big Baby would have to be the odds on favorite. He is going to put up big numbers. I don't think LSU will be as good this year as last, but he should have really impressive numbers.

Morris and Crawford cutting down the nets and advancing to the Final Four. I know the ultimate goal is to win the NC, but that would be a big step for us at this point. Ending that drought should be our top priority. JMHO.
Okay, so you wanted best individual story......Morris winning player of the year. I just had to throw that little extra in.
