View Full Version : PROFFITT STILL WAITING FOR UK'S OFFER

Rumor had UK offering a scholarship to Ty Proffitt, a point guard from South Laurel High.

"Nah," Proffitt said as he rode to Morgantown, W.Va., to play in a summer event this weekend. "They haven't offered anything right now."

The key words are "right now."

According to Proffitt and his coach at South Laurel, UK has shown varying degrees of interest. So an offer might be in the offing some day. UK said they would continue to evaluate Proffitt.

"When I went to (UK's) camp, I figured they'd offer me there," Proffitt said. "When he (UK Coach Tubby Smith) talked to me, I thought I'd be the only guard there. When I got there, he offered (Bud) Mackey a full ride." Mackey plays for Scott County.

What:question He just linked the story and part of Tiptons own words. It is against forum rules to copy entire stories for copyright reasons.

You left out the following statement the kid also made:

Although frustrating, the mixed signals do not alarm Proffitt. The player sounded philosophical, wise beyond his years.
"Recruiting is a game," he said. "More or less, you have to put your trust in a coach, a coach you don't know very well.
"If I was a coach and I thought there was someone better than me, I'd offer him the scholarship. He shouldn't feel pressured into recruiting me. Coach Smith and Coach (Scott) Rigot are great guys. If somebody's a better fit, they should take him."

I guess anyone can frame a story, huh? Just put an alarming title on the board, all caps looking the best, with a "chicken little" title.

Good job.

Uh, ... the post, including the caps in the title, was simply a cut and past from the article. Fact is that some people like to be able to read some of the article to see if they want the link. So, I cut and paste a portion of the beginning of the article to let people get a feel without attempting to infringe on the copyright.

Succinctly put, your critique is crap and amounts to baseless conjecture.

According to several sources, there were about 20 Kentucky high school players in the classes of 2007 and 2008, including one player in the class of 2009, that were invited to that same camp for evaluations. Ty Proffitt was far from being the "only" gaurd being recruited by UK.

Good point. And, if Ty was the only guard being recruited than it would stand to reason that he would already have an offer. If I'm Ty Profitt and I want a scholarship to UK I would stop running my recruiting through the print and broadcast media. His recent post/non-post (depending on who you believe)on a fan forum, his appearances on Alan Cutler's radio show and now the interview with Tipton are not going to help in the further evaluation that UK is doing, IMO. While I'm sure he's a good kid, as anyone who knows him has reported, too often in these reports he's coming across as whiny and disgruntled, not exactly qualities that will endear him to the coaching staff. Ty needs to realize that the media guys love controversy, especially when it involves UK and especailly during such a slow news season. If he thinks putting your trust in a columnist or a radio personality that you don't know is safer than putting your trust in a coach you don't know, then he is in for some hard lessons.

The bottomline is, IF UK needs and wants his services, they WILL offer. If not, and TY feels he is good to benefit a top-tier D1 program such as UK, then other schools should be interested in him as well. UK is looking at in-state talent. That's a fact. The classes of 2008 and 2009 have a few players listed on scouts.com and rivals.com and other national scouting/rankings services. Ty, as any recruit should know, recruiting is a serious business with major colleges. They will look at every position and seek out those that bring the most to the table and fit the mode of that program.

He posted an article. How is that a reflection on him? He copied the first few lines and moved on. Caveman posts quite a few articles and he does them just like this. He is not taking the time to 'editorialize' it. If you have a beef it should be with how Tipton started the article, since those are his words, his headline. I have never seen someone get bashed for how they posted an article.

FCFS82 wrote: And you could have just posted the link, but why do that when the first five paragraphs sound all negative like big, bad UK reneged on their word to the kid?

Maybe i am just saying that since we're all worried about boards and who reads them, you might want to watch how you post stuff?

Regardless of the accusation, the cut and paste was merely based on length and not on substance.

This article is posted on the internet in its entirety. The idea that posting part of it with a link will have an impact on recruiting is ludicrous. :?

Thanks for the post, Caveman Catfan. You copied Tipton's first five paragraphs on the subject and then gave us the link for "more," which wouldallow us to readthe rest of Tipton's comments. Frankly, I do not see any problem whatsover with that and cannot remotely understand anyone's being critical of your post. Again, thanks.

Thanks. I can only imagine that it has to do with something else. Just what, I do not know.

Got word that Proffitt may have gotten a couple of offers from mid-majors. One is East Carolina.

If this kid really wants to come to UK, he needs to be patient and let Tubby get his national recruiting out of the way.
