While acknowledging the difficulty in controlling UK fans, Bell said the school is obligated to make an effort to prevent impermissible contacts on the Internet, telephone and ever-expanding lines of communication.
Toward that end, Bell appeared on a Lexington radio show Tuesday night to address the postings on Patterson's Web site.
UK also posts recruiting rules on several fan message boards and plans a "cease and desist" order on those sites.
what a bunch of crap

Bell noted how greater NCAA restrictions on contacts with prospects clashes with Internet technology that makes prospects more accessible. Beginning Aug. 1, only college coaches who have passed a test on NCAA rules can make recruiting calls to prospects, she said.
That is too funny.:ggrin: I wonder if Sampson will pass the test? :ggrin:

Just out of curiosity why is this "a bunch of crap?"
These message boards are set up for the specific purpose of supporting University of Kentucky athletics, so why shouldn't wisdom of the school's compliance officer not be welcomed on any UK fan website?

Also curious what the "bunch of crap" reference is toward.
NCAA violations are serious business. We should all know that first hand.

there are rules that are in place justto keep honest people honest, and crooks will be crooks not much that can be done about that.
But to haverule that TRIES to prevent me "Joe Fan" from saying "pssst...I would like to see you in UKBlue and White" to a potential recruit shows a simple case of an agency that has wentto an extreme in response to problems in the past. The NCAA committee needs to hire an outside agency to evaluatethe practicality and enforcability of their rules andmake suggestions on how to simplifythem.
I don't think Sandy was talking about shutting down these type of boards, justasking those in contact with recruits to "cease and desist". Am I wrong?

I think that all of this myspace stuff is just silly. Who ever these people who are sending these things to these kids should be banned from those sites just for the nature of their posts and messages. I went to the kids profile just to see what all of it was about and I saw a few comments but nothing much worse than what his boys were saying.

I agree mostly, but the rule isn't a "pssst...I would like to see you in a UK uniform", it's enticement to wear a UK uniform. Offering them something, no matter what it is, to come to UK. In this case, an alleged UK fan offered Patterson a picture of a girl and said he would be...uhhh...well treated. That's an enticement. I think going to his games, wearing UK, and simply telling him that it would be great if he came to UK isn't a violation. ( I don't think ). Most of these rules are subject to interpretation and it's best to have very little contact with a potential recruit.
But rules that attempt to govern fan behavior on the internet are unenforcible and a waste of time.

Fans who don't take this seriously run the risk of significantly harming our basketball program. It's nothing to laugh about.
