Man, I wouldn't mind getting this kid. He sounds like a jumping jack and a good rebounder. Besides, it would be another nice body for the PF spot.

Here is his scout BIO:

Here is the article about why he is now available for THIS year.

You want another kid with suspect grades??? I'm not sure. I think we should go with what we have right now and limit the rotation as much as we can. I like the squad the way it is set up now.

Man, that is crappy if he really has been cleared. I wonder if there is some other issue that has not come into the light or if the SC president is just being overly cautious and trying to avoid future complications.

GRAY (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/mensbasketball/sec/2006-07-20-south-carolina-recruit_x.htm?csp=34)

Seems it's not so much the player's grades but the prep school that's in question.

Apparantly Tubby offered Gray today and he is going to come for a visit soon.

The article says he verballed to Florida State for football as a junior and then changed his mind to play basketball for USC. Must be an athlete for FSU to look at him that early.

FSU is certainly no football slouch. The kid must be athletic. Plus, if he's opted for basketball over football, then it must be his true love. Sounds very promising.

THANK YOU!!!!!!

so many fans are writing stevenson off because he's to small @ 6'9 195. but this kid all of the sudden seems like a good fit. it's not just this board either. stevenson is an inch taller, more athletic, faster, better defender, and top 100 to boot. but, he's too small and this kid is a good pu????? i'm all for signing this kid if he's willing to play for uk and his grades and character are in order. don't get me wrong we need all the help @ forward we can get. i just don't see why some see him as a nice pu yet think that stevenson is a year or two from contributing.

Is this kid a better athlete than Lonnell Dewalt?

Once again, what is the downside here? The kid is a great 2 sport athlete who has the grades to get in. Not sure about his character and why it should be in question.

Just because he isn't 250 lbs doesn't mean he cannot get there or he is not tough. He was a FSU football recruit as well.

With only 11 scholarships and needing help underneath, I don't see this pickup, if it happens, as a negative at all.

The only downside that I can see is that it hurts us with some of our top power forwards in '07. While it for sure would be great for this year, Im just concerned that it may deter some guys for '07. Nothing against Gray, I've never seen the guy play, But I just want to getPatterson, Hickson, Southern, so bad. But, I have faith in Tubby to do the right thing. If Tubby thinks he's good enough, then so do I.

We've had a significant lack ofathletic players for a long time, particularly athletic big men. This year's freshmen class finally looks like itaddresses the problem, but other thanStevenson the athletes are all guards.Getting a kid like Gray could be a big plus. I like to seebig guys who have the quickness to defend both outside and inside andthere are no returning players able to do that. When we play teams like Florida (with bigs that can go inside or outside) we haven't had the athletes to stay with them. Stevenson and Gray both sound like they've got the athletic ability to do that, although they clearly would have a lot to learn about playing D at the D1 level.

I like to see that Tubby is finally adressing the lack of athleticism we've had in the past. This might bethe most athletic class Tubby has signed to date, and the addition of Gray would defintiely make it so.

i dont think i said that there was one. as a matter of fact my exact words were "i'm all for signing this kid" i'm just curious as to why so many have written off stevenson as a high major contributor yet they think this kid is gonna play right away????

stevenson's every bit athletic as grey and is a better defender. stevenson is an inch taller and 10 lbs lighter.

his height, hops, and speed alone make him an OUTSTANDING late pick up if we do get him. In my eyes, better than Nash.

That's pretty incredible. Actually, that's very incredible. Although if he's still not very highly touted with all that athleticism, that's kind of troubling.

You do realize that 245 lb isn't on the big end for a forward, right? It's on the huge end. 210-225 is about the norm. His size seems fine to me.

Is anyone worried about the effect his signing might have on '07 PF recruits? That'd be 2 PFs we sign (he has been listed as an SF some places, though), which in and of itself might hurt us. But the combination of 2 in '06 + possibly and early signing from Vaughn this month or next might hurt our chances big time for Hickson/Randolph/Patterson.

I don't really have my mind made up.

JAMES LEE - But James had a little more meat on him.

So, yes, somecan CAN say JAMES LEE! :ggrin:

Seriously, I like what I read aboutGray's athleticism. As someone posted, we are certainly in need of more athleticism in our frontcourt.

poodoo,

Off-topic, but in our long history of watching UK sports, is there any moment more satisfying than James dunking on the Dukies?

Well DC - the way I see it -we have ALL been screaming about our inability to land a power forward so maybe it's best we not take the attitude of "yeah - but this one might not be our first choice so let's pass".

From what I've heard, that is a problem we've suffered from with recent recruits.

Now....I don't know if this guy's a great pick up or not - but if he can fill the bill - hey - sign him!!!
