Do you all think that Bailey will be in the rotation before August?

The kid is absolutely destroying AA, and the Reds have been manhandled a few times this year by staright-from-AA pitchers.

The "He'll get burnt out!" argument is weird, I think. That argument suggests that Bailey would be pitching harder, trying harder, if he were with the big league club.

He's still pitching in AA in his normal spot in the rotation. I don't see how he could get burnt out any faster with the Reds than he could in Dayton.

I say bring him up. That 5th spot in the rotation is really scaring me. You basically have to score 6 or 7 runs to keep yourself in contention when Joe Mays starts. I don't know if a team can make a real, honest-to-God playoff push with such a void in the back-end of the staff.

I can't figure out what this is about.I don't know enough about the details like contracts and so on.....but if you can burn out in the majors you can burn out in the minors.....

Mays gets clobbered a lot. When will this happen? How come it hasn't happened yet? The longer he throws in the minors, the longer he won't face those he needs to face. If he comes up and gets clobbered, that makes him at least as good as Mays, right?

No he won't be in big leagues in August or anytime this season,IMO. From what I read he still relies mainly on his fastball. He still doesn't have complete control of his curve or change up. MLB hitters will figure that out real quick and light him up. If he did come up and get hit hard he could lose his confidence completely and never be the pitcher he could have been. This has happened before. Remember David Clyde from the 70's or even Mike Morgan. I hope they go slow and easy with him and don't rush. If all goes according to plan I think mid 2007 you could see him, maybe sooner if really knocks out AAA.

Agree.

On top of that I would rather not start his service clock ticking just to be a fifth starter.

They have another startingpitcher on their High A team,Dayton, named Johnny Cuetowho is pitching lights out also.He is 8-1 with a 2.59 ERA and .88WHIP.He has K'ed 82 while only walking 15 in 76 innings. If he can progress like Bailey the staff could look real good in late 2007 or 2008.

Almost forgot they also have Travis Wood in Dayton. He's 7-2 but has a 4 something ERA.

I want to see some playoff baseball in Cincinnati this year but with all the good young pitching that they apparently have I don't want to mortgage the future to do it.

He may see action in Louisville by the end of the year just to face some stiffer competition, but the Reds have been very protective of Bailey at each level. He's kept very low pitch counts (only averaging 6 innings per start in AA even though he's cruising thru the league). In MLB, where the strike zone shrinks to the size of a piece of notebook paper and every hitter can turn around a 95 mph fastball, I don't think he'd be much more successful than Joe Mays right now.

Mays probably has one more start before he either goes to the bullpen or back to his mom's house for good. Claussen has a rehab start on Wednesday and will hopefully be back to5.24 ERA form for the Reds next week.

Can't wait to see them face Rocket on Tuesday nite.

I hope Mays is going home for good. He's horrible! I would rather the Reds bring up and give Germano or Phil Dumatrait a start. They can't be any worse than Mays.

Mays is gone for good, Claussen's still rehabbing, it'll be interesting to see who starts in Mays' spot on Saturday. Reds say Homer Bailey is definitely not coming to Cincy anytime soon, but Dumatrain, Germano, and Chris Michalak are all candidates for call-up. Like to see Germano given a chance and see Shackleford sent back down since we've got 2 lefties in the pen right now.

Shame that we couldn't hold 5-1 lead last night, but a great game the night before to beat the Rocket. Brandon Phillips keeps impressing me.

Another great outing by Bailey last night. Below is his stat line.

6ip, 5 hits, 2 walks, 8 strikeouts, 0 runs

He's dominated AA so far. I wouldn't mind being promoted to AAA Louisville for the rest of the season to see what he can do there for the last month of the season.

Agreed, AA hitters can't touch Bailey so far.

What about Adam Dunn. He's reached base 9 straight times (although that bomb to dead center last night, do you call it reaching base when you round them all), 7 for 7 with 2 walks. Looks like he's trying to hit line drives and not mammoth fly balls since the AllStar break.

Cubbies just beat St. Louis for the 3rd straight at Wrigley. If the Cubs win at home tomorrow, it will be the first Cub sweep of St.L. at Wrigley in 34 years Reds currently 3back.

I hope Bailey moves up to AAA soon. We need to see what he can do as the Reds are going to need solid pitching down the home stretch. Let him pitch one or two games and if he has a solid outing-move him up.

Also, please let me know if anyone is interested in going to a Reds game. I usually get 4 very good seats(off of first base)from a manufacturer-I just need to see what is available. Please email me or respond if interested and I will see what I can do without making any guarantees but it probably will not be a problem.

Here is Bailey's line from last night. If it wasn't for the walks it would have been another great outing. Looks like he will staying in AA the rest of the season. Some on Redszone are thinking he may be tiring here at the end of the season since his last two starts haven't been as stellar and he has had control problems.Still, though he has had a great season in AA.

Bailey was dominant again last night in AA.

Chris Michalak was...not with the Big Club.

Bailey is 7-0 with Chattanooga with close to a 1 ERA.

I'm in the same place I was in July: why not call the kid up?
