I watched him play a couple of times last season. Great player. He was very dominant and very agile when I saw him. I didn't know if he was a big time recruit or not, but heading over to Oak Hill almost assures a rise in the ratings. Even better than his game is his demeanor on the floor. Very even keel, but still aggressive, and seemed to be a coachable young player.

The fact that he will be going to Oak Hill gives us a better shot at getting him. Some of UK's favorite players have been from there! Certainly a place where we have gotten lots of recruits!

Isn't Oak Hill one of the NCAA's look at schools?

Maybe because Oak Hill's coach is a native Kentuckian and lifelong wildcat fan.

He's a five star and number 19 overall according to rivals, and can play either post position. Hopefully him and Patterson can come over a form a nasty little one two punch in the post.

They have been cleared, I believe. From all accounts they have excellent academics, they just focus a lot of attention on basketball. They are not a diploma mill.

Thanks for the link, ukwebfan.
Too, I really like the sound ofJulian Vaughn AND his parents. This young man has evidently been raised right, specifically inhaving priorities setright.Parents who do not mind disciplining their kids (temporarily taking them out of sports, in this case)for not giving their best effort in the classroom are mostly a rare breed. It reminds me of my husband's making one of his star players sit out for getting a C when he was fully capable of making straight A's, a move that was supported by the young man's parents.
I suspect Julian's parents are impressed with Coach Smith, too, as Tubby is known for having his players sit out games when they are not fulfilling academic responsibilities. Also, I hope Julian enjoys his visit. :)

This is also extremely good news, although my hunch (which means nothing, of course), tells me he's going to BC.
Vaughn, I think we can get. Unfortunately, we've lost a few to F$U recently (such as Echefu) and they like to play up their big-man oriented system.

Is the coach that is currently at Oak Hill the one who we have recruited so many good players out of? That helps a ton it its true.

Yes, Steve Smith is a native Kentuckian and graduate of Asbury College class of 1977. Alumni of Oak Hill who attended UK include Rondo, Cliff Hawkins, Jules Camara, Ron Mercer and Rashaad Carruth.

While Steve's conncetion to the Bluegrass certainly do not hurt us, it would be wrong to portray him as a homer for UK. He genuinely cares about his kids and strives to place players in the best place for them. While we have had players from Oak Hill come to UK there have been a LOT of schools that benefit from the Oak Hill program. I don't have any lists but I would not think we are disproportionately higher than some other big time programs in the number of kids who migrated from Oak Hill.

Here's a good read (albeit a bit dated) on Steve Smith...take a look at the bottom of the article for some Oak Hill alumni now playing in the NBA.

Kinda funny, Smith makes mention in this article that he actually turned Kevin Garnett down for admittance at Oak Hill twice.

They go to FSU and are never heard from again. Despite some good classes FSU has had almost no success other than a few upsets. If I were a recruit I would be dubious of FSU. No one seems to be getting better there nor are they winning. Not exactly a great combo. Vaugh seems very interested in UK. If UK puts the pressure on, I think they could get a commit from him fairly early. Obviously just a guess.

Definately true that F$U hasn't had the success they should have considering some of the talents they've brought in. However, they did just have 2 players drafted in the last 3 years, and Al Thornton (a PF) is almost certainly going to be drafted this upcoming year. That might play into the recruits' minds a bit.
