MILLEDGEVILLE - Whether competing against other high school athletes, or striving to reach the NFL like his brother, inspiration comes in various forms for Carson Hill, Baldwin's diminutive defensive back.
The senior, who stands a hair shorter than 5-foot-10, does not let his size interfere with his play, though has often been told that his size will restrict him to playing Division II college football.
Hill however, might have the last laugh on all those naysayers. Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Kentucky are just some of the Division I-A schools that have made scholarship offers to Hill....

I'm all for taking what we can get, but how can our defensive backs ever compete against the larger taller recievers of teams like FLorida, UT, UGA, etc. if they give up 6 inches on them right off the bat. we need larger, taller defensive backs.

I don't agree with that. If you look at Florida, UT, UGA and so forth, you'll see their own DB's are mostly smaller than WR's. Shorter DB's are typically quicker which is needed to stay with WR's who know where they are going.

The first requirement for a DB is that he be able to stay with the fast receivers. Secondly, he must be able to tackle the receiver if he catches the ball. Third, he should be able to leap as high as the receiver---no matter the height.
Problem is that it's very hard to find DBs who are 6' 2" and do the 40 in 4.4 time. But there are very few passes caught in the typical game because a tall WR out-leaped the defender who was there on top of the play but just couldn't get up high enough.
If UK's WRs can just stay with the receiver, they'll interrupt enough plays to suit me. So I'd take a 5' 9" guy if he is exceptionally good.

The NFL is full of corners who are 5'10" or less. Frank Minniefield was a gnat and became a perennial All-Pro. Remember, it is the size of the fight in the dog and not the other way around.

Neither Rivals or Scout list him as having an offer from UK. Oh well!
