I am new to the game of Golf.

I've played 8 times since I took it up last year.

Through much impatience and anger, I have managed a decent golf swing without lessons.

On my birdie, i was looking at a 185 yard par 3 that played fairly straight.

My 3 iron got the ball about 2 ft from the cup.

It may not matter much to any on here, but I was SUPER AMPED about it.

I'm looking forward to taking my game to a more challenging course in Sultans Run in Jasper Indiana this Sunday morning.

Has anyone played there? Would a newbie such as myself find this too challenging?

It matters to me.

Well played!

BTW, for the record everyone here should try to be in an outing with me and be in the group immediately behind me. TWICE since the first week of June someone in our group (playing in the foursome behind me) has made an ace!

Two different friends on two different courses in two different states, but I do see the pattern forming here. Oh well, at least the drinks were free both times! :icon_mrgreen:

Again, congratulations!

That's great BH. My first bird to a little longer for me, but it was every much as exciting. I was playing a hole with a dog leg to the right withan elevated green. My tee shot was shanked off the tee box and went about 20 yds. My second got me in the middle of the fairway about 150 yds out. My third shot hit on the green, but with it tilting back, thought it rolled off the back side. After looking all around for w few, one of my playing partners looked in the hole and THERE IT WAS. I couldn't believe it. To me, it was like a hole in one. That got me hooked.

It's been several years since I have played Sultans Run. It is a beautiful course and will be challenging for a beginner. They have widened the fairways since I played, so should not be as intimidating now. The finishing hole is awesome.

We're playing 36 with the last 18 being an alternate shot scramble. I'm pumped up and can't wait.

I googled the course and 18 looks breathtaking.

I wouldn't mind some of your good luck to rub off on me!

You know, I had an opportunity YEARS ago to take up the game with some buddies of mine. I said to heck with it and they stuck it out. Now they're some good golfers and I'm behind the eight ball. When I find something I like to do, I want to be the best at it. I hate to lose .

Golf has provided me with a new challenge in life but I know I'll never master it. Nobody does for the most part.

I'll never forget what my Uncle told me when I told him I'm taking up the sport, "Good luck trying to be comfortable with your game. I've been golfing all my life and I'm still not comfortable." A rather sober commentary.

Thats great. I've played since I was 16 (im 43) and can still remember my first bird. I also had an ace a couple years ago. You mentioned that you have not had lessons - I would highly recommend doing that. It would be well worth it. While I now have a decent swing, there has been much agony in trying to rid myself from some improper form and bad habits that limited my game got many years. If I had the foundation of sound teaching when I was just starting out - it would have made my life lots easier.

I'm just trying to pay attention to the guys I golf with- staying on the balls of my feet, keeping my right arm close to my body and lining up my left shoulder with the ball on my backswing and following through.

This game is TOUGH!! But I like it.

Golf has provided me with a new challenge in life

Not to derail the original thread, but let me just say that I don't know your age, but I'm 61 and retired at 56. I can't tell you how important a new challenge is.

Last year I decided I was going to learn to tie a bow tie. Most frustrating thing I have ever done - even more than golf! But now I really enjoy wearing them.

This year I decided I would learn to shave with a straight razor. I'm sure the bad pun is that this caused me to have a little more skin in the game than the bow tie, but this was kind of neat as well.

Living in Lexington, I intend to go back to UK under the Donovan Scholar program (assuming it's still there) in 4 more years and take graduate level classes in American history.

Till then, who knows? We now return you to the Golf Channel ;)

I recently joined th " Good walk ruined " club ,( 3 yrs ago ) and while my birdies are more frequent they're still very much enjoyed . But what I take from the game is an opportunity to enjoy some good friends company , maybe meet some new people and hopefully "GET IT IN THE HOLE ! " On Sultans Run , I found it to be a pretty difficult round . But as with all golf its much more fun if you're playin between the rough ........:icon_lol:
Two most important words FAIRWAY GOLF ;)
Enjoy it ,but don't take yourself too serious :shades:

I never take anything too seriously.

I'll just do what I've been doing. Ask my partner what he would shoot, then take another club. I'm all about TRYING to play it safe.

Played 36 at Sultans Run yesterday.

I lost 16 balls the first 18 and shot a 150:eek: though I did par 2 holes.

The second round was a scramble and I lost 8 more balls.

I hit some very good shots but they were few and far between. I made good contact with all my shots but had trouble with my aim. I found myself trying to play my slice. I need to get out of that because that's a recipe for disaster.

A very tough course for someone with my experience level but I had an absolute blast. I was definitely feeling the effects from the heat. I drank 18 16oz bottles of water and only went to the bathroom 3 times. It was HOT out there!

I can't wait to play this course again. The layout was beautiful and the 18th hole was breathtaking. The rough was just that. If your ball set down in that, good luck finding it. Some of the greens looked like crap but the fairways were in great shape.
