View Full Version : Should Tubby be scheduling visits earlier?

As we watch Vaughn don a Seminole jersey, I think we might want to reflect on a few things.

Vaughn is not the first recruit to pledge to visit Kentucky, but change his mind and sign with another school before coming. Indeed, Damion James told every school he visited that he would commit there--he committed on his first (and only) official visit to Oklahoma, decommitted when Sampson left, visited Texas A&M and told their coaches he would go there, then went to UT for the hell of it, liked what he saw, and committed there.

I'm starting to think that getting an early visit in might be a lot more important than I had believed earlier. Should we start trying to be the first team in for these guys, rather than trying to leave the good final impression on them?

Didnt BW come here for a football game and go to UNC for their basketball midnight madness? I think that whole recruitment is messing with Tubby's head. It seems he is trying to get a lot of recruits to visit during midnight madness which is great if we can stay in tight with them until then.

He needs to do something different, that is for sure.

However, after reading about the load he is taking on in recruiting because of his lack of quality recruiting assistants, things will likely fall through the cracks again because there is so much to do.

When something isn't working, then you change the routine a little...try something.

We shall see. Patterson is the must get recruit for Smith, IMO......for lots of reasons.

Ive heard Florida is now leading for Patterson as well as Hickson. Does anyone know how many sholarships they have on the roster right now? They only have 3 seniors this year and already have 4 commits.

No chance they get both. Not saying they don't lead for both, but they will not get both. Most expect Noah, et all to declare after this year.

I dont think so either but you never know. I think Noah declares as well but you cant count on that as a recruit if your looking to make an early comitment even before the season starts.

If Tubby misses out on Hickson and Patterson, he will resign after the '06 and '07 season, IMO.

I still don't think we'll miss on both. The information that's floating around has apparently been spread by UF guys and none other than Greg Hoover, and we all know Hoover's track record. As somebody on the KSR board pointed out, GH starts to get irresponsible with his comments when his predictions go wrong. (Apparently he predicted the kid who just went to FSU would be a Cat.) Thus he's in message board purgatory over at DD and has been cast off everywhere he's been. But this is sour grapes, so I'll stop now.

Anyway, I think I'll just wait and see.

We need both those kids. Losing Patterson would be tough to swallow. Losing both would be the straw that breaks this staff's back.

If either Patterson or Hickson are really serious about UK, one needs to go ahead and committ. NOW Tubby Smith is losing more and more of the fan base as each passing day goes by. With players he is recruiting finding other schools to carry on with their game, the list of whiffs gets longer and longer and longer. If we were scoring it like baseball scores strikeouts it would look like this: K K K K K K K K K

The best thing that could happen to Coach Smith would be for an impact power forward to committ. If any of them really do love him, they need to lend him a hand and tell the world they are coming to UK. That would be a shot in the arm for recruiting and keep the wolves away for awhile.

I agree with you . Tubby's recruiting will be the death of him as the UK coach if he doesn't get his act together.

Tubby needs young aggressive asst coaches who can assist him in effective recruiting.

When was this time? Were their unicorns scampering around? Mermaids? I LOVE me some mermaids.

BTW: calling this incoming class "scraps" is a bit...dramatic. (And wrong.)

As always, IMO.

Agreed. It seems like this year, Tubby's taken over almost all of the recruiting. I haven't read anything about Hanson doing anything this year, but Rigot's probably playing some (small) role. If Bill Self ever gets fired from Kansas we better hire him in a nanosecond.
