I was justs reading an article that points out that one of the big men that recently committed to FSU did so largely because of the good relations and references from his AAU coach to Leonard Hamilton. (We all know what a good recruiter Hamilton is and he will do well at FSU, but should he be beating us?)
It was suggested that many of these very top kids come through AAU ball and rely heavily on their AAU coaches to guide them in choosing a college. It was further suggested that Tubby's more old fashioned approach of not dealilng much with the AAU guys might be costing him some of the big men he's missed out on the last few years.
I had never considered this before. But it seems to make sense that college coaches must deal deal with the AAU coaches if they want to get support on the recruitment of some of these kids that get a zilliion offers. Anybody got a feel as to the importance of such relationships in college recruiting? And how Tubby is doing in this respect?
