Saw a post on another board about this kid from E-Town. This kind of performance puts him pretty high up, I'd expect but he's not currently listed on the Scout 100. Anybody got some inside scoop on this kid and if UK is (actively) recruiting him?
Steffphon Pettigrew, a 6-5 swing man from the Derek Smith All-Stars has been virtually unstoppable in Vegas. As we mentioned above, he had 72 in the two games yesterday. If you leave him open he makes you pay! His recruiting should really pick up after his performances here.

Kid is from Etown which is my hometown. He's like 6'4 and a post player. From some of the things I've read said he's working on his outside game, but from the games I've watched the kid he doesn't have the wing skills to be a bigtime college player. He works really hard though and is very athletic. Love to watch him play high school ball though.

Same thing I saw. Operates mostly around the basket. Above average athlete, well-above average physique. Has a football body. A man's shoulders. Lurchy, almost robotic perimeter game. Will have to improve the outside skills to be a D1 player. It's important to note that I've only seen him once; a lot of people around the E-Town area who post here and elsewhere, some pretty knowledgeable folks, are VERY high on him.

he is a freakin beast!! thats for sure ... i think he could work on his perimeter skills and become a solid d-1 player

Bird and Lavender's assessments are pretty much spot on from what I've heard. I've never seen him play. Doubt he'll ever wear KY blue.
There are lots of people clammoring for Tubby to offer him right now. They're generally the same people who'll be frothing at the mouth when he turns out to be ranked 2 stars, and they'll bash Tubby for it.

yea its amazing that i've noticed the same thing. People were saying Dan Werner was too low, but they are clamoring to recruit a guy not even mentioned on any lists. Doesn't mean the guru's are right but if certain people choose to base their opinions on rankings, they shouldn't change because its a ky boy and so forth...imo

I've never seen him play so I don't know a thing. But what about his performances listed in that link? Those are pretty gaudy numbers against arguably top national talent, right?

Im kind of the opposite. I think he does end up at Ky. Tubby likes hard workers and if he is gonna push for a Ky kid I think its Stephon because of his build. Ive heard from a lot of people that think he gets offered after the early signing period depending on how things are going at that point.

He does look like a prototypical Tubby recruit. Positionless. Strong. Hard worker. Not many discernible skills that have been polished. Almost a Desmond Allison-like body.
Still, I'd have to see him again to get a better feel. There's no way a guy his size plays on the blocks at a place like UK, and that's where he hung out most of the time the night I saw him. The few deep shots he put up clanked out.
Barbour who came out of etown was a legit wing player. Thats where he played in high school and its from that position that he would throw up 30 points a game in the State tournament as a senior. Pettigrew is not a wing player. He might become one some day but Kentucky doesn't need anymore projects. Think about it, at 6'4 he would need to play the 2 in college, and to go from a 4/5 to a 2 would be a huge jump. Its one thing to drive to the lane on a slow 6'5 white boy from Kentucky, but to do it against equally quick and athletic gaurds that grew up playing that position would be another. I have nothing against the kid and I might be wrong but I just don't think he is what Kentucky needs.
