I think my Redlegs are going to pull through and take the NL wildcard. The split with the Cardinals hurt us, I think. We needed to win that series. I like the way the last few series set up for us, however. I also think that the Twins will end up taking the AL Wildcard.

My outlook changes by the week. Two weeks ago I thought it would be Arizona. Last week I thought it would be the Dodgers. Now I think it might be San Diego.

Who knows.

A strange thing happened last night, though: the Reds held on to first place in the WC race because San Diego fell out of first in the NL West.

You know it's a strange year when that happens.

I still think one of these teams will go on a big 10-game winning streak and put the field behind them. There's still enough time to pull that off. I'd like to believe that the Reds can do that, but with Ramirez pitching the way he has, Arroyo pitching the way he has, and with Kyle Lohse at the end of the rotation -- I just don't see it.

Big series this weekend with the Phillies, though. They've been playing well, and they stomped the Reds when they played them in Cincinnati.

And look at Houston hovering just 2.5 back in the Wild Card race.

The easy one first. In the AL the White Sox will get the WC. The Red Sox have injury problems and were just swept by the lowly Royals. The Twins may have lost Liriano for the season with elbow problems. That will take care of them.

I would love to see the Reds get into the playoffs but I don't think they will quite make it. The starting rotation just isn't deep enough. Ramirez is young and inconsistent; whoever is the 5th starter has been a disaster and I don't hold much hope for Lohse.;Milton is Milton,if you get six decent innings from him you are fortunate;Arroyo has really regressed. I think he may be tiring after carrying the staff for three months and Harang has been steady but I think he may be showing signs of tiring. I believe the Dodgers will win their division. So the better for them. Houston is coming on strong lately and I think I will go with them. They have the best starters of the bunch and Ensberg has just come off the DL to give them a big boost in their lineup. Actually if the Astros get really hot they could overtake the Cards to win the division. The Cards starting pitching looks dismal right now.

I actually don't mind Milton. He's been blasted on Redszone for the last two years, but so are all the veterans. Is Milton overpaid? Yes. But outside of Harang, he's been the Reds most consistent pitcher in the last two months.

If you take out Milton's early starts when the knee was injured, and if you take out the start against the Mets when Narron should have taken him out, the ERA suddenly gets very respectable.
