The University of Kentucky held its annual football Fan Day yesterday, passed out free posters, hot dogs and soft drinks. Funny thing, but everyone's cup seemed half full.
That's not surprising, given the resilience of UK football fans.
I've been trying to understand this phenomenon. Between the annual Tennessee thrashing and what is becoming a regular loss to the University of Louisville, something amazing happens among the UK faithful. Hope springs in the humidity. Disappointment dims. Confidence blooms.
No matter how dismal the ending -- and last season ended with a touchdown-free offensive effort against the worst Tennessee team in 25 years -- by August they're plotting bowl trips on Mapquest, or at least planning victory parties for their upset of U of L.
