Goo-Goo-Goo -- GO BIG BLUE!
Modeled after the successful Baby Einstein series, a batch of 30-minute DVDs employs bright images and gentle action sequences to introduce -- or some might say "indoctrinate" -- young children into the sports world of a parent's favorite college team.
One aimed at Kentucky alumni is called "Baby Wildcat." It carries the slogan "Raising Tomorrow's Kentucky Fan Today!"
It features male and female college athletes on UK teams, ranging from basketball and gymnastics to tennis and volleyball. In licensed clips, star athletes make brief appearances. For example, you can see Tim Couch throw a football and Tayshaun Prince score a basket. But mainly, the DVD focuses on adorable babies, toddlers and youngsters who wear UK apparel and play with balls and other toy products emblazoned with UK logos.
The producers sprinkle in a few elementary efforts at education. Numbers from 1 to 10 are displayed with shapes and objects. The colors blue and white are emphasized and specific words, such as WILDCATS and KENTUCKY, are spelled out with blocks and other graphics. The UK marching band and school fight song add musical elements while a bouncy Wildcat mascot, who appears to have snacked on a Cardinal, is sure to get the attention of adults and children.
