Kentucky head coach Rich Brooks is well past waiting for someone else to bring up his job security.
Last month, while addressing almost 700 media members from around the nation at SEC Media Days, the third sentence of his opening statement got right to the root of this season's biggest Wildcats issue.
"I'm hoping I'll be back here next year," he said. "To do that, we have to win more games obviously. The good news is we're in better position than at any time since I've been here to do that."
Brooks is 9-25 in three seasons at Kentucky. He has won four SEC games in that span - two against Mississippi State and two against Vanderbilt. The Wildcats finished 3-8 last year. How many they must win this year for Brooks to see a fifth year with the program, he is doesn't know or isn't saying.
"I know we're better," he said. "Now, we have to go prove it to everybody else."
The good news is Kentucky is close to the NCAA maximum of 85 scholarships. In Brooks' first season, because of sanctions before he took over, the program had 68.
