The (2008) kids are all right ...By JL Blue (http://aseaofblue.com/user/JL%20Blue) Section: Basketball (http://aseaofblue.com/section/basketball)

Rivals has released its 2008 rankings (http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?ra_key=1617), and contrary to my previous rantings, a couple of Kentucky kids figure prominently.
Scotty Hopson, a 6-foot-5, 185 pound wing forward, has risen to the lofty spot of #10 overall (#1 small forward) after a superb summer AAU session.

How come he doesn't list UK on his school list.

Edit: We have offered recently and he has been invited to Madness.

Keep an eye on Larry Drew, he's one of my favorite prospects thusfar. The kid is an absolute stud with the ball.

Does anyone think that Scotty Hopson and Darius Miller will sign early too UK. It would be nice too get two greatplayers from Kentucky to sign. I would hate to see them go somewhere else. Has anyoneheard anythingabout where they might want to go.

Actually, thusfar, neither seem to be considering UK very strongly.
It's been an odd recruitment. Tubby hasn't really gone after them yet (then again, it is only 2008), but he has offered them. Afraid of another Lofton, maybe?

Scout says Miller has us listed as "high" (the only school listed as "high"). He is 6'6" now, maybe goes to 6'8" or 6'9". Some pundits say he is the best of the 2008 class from the state. Tubby should try and get an early commit from him.
(As a side note: Ohio State has already got a commitments from two good ones in this class (according to Rivals) and are leading contenders for three more (according to scout). So there goes the "climate" theory. What in the world is getting all of these topguys wanting to go to Ohio State recently?)

The trend is towards recruiting younger... and younger... so for Kentucky it's VERY important, if for no other reason than to hold court and please the fanbase, to get in good with any Kentucky high school player that cracks the Top 100.
With that said, it seems offering both these boys is a no-brainer.
Scotty Hopson (Rivals #10)

Darius Miller (Rivals #37)

Especially considering that in 2006, there wasn't a single Kentucky HS player on the big board.

Maybe Miller but from most stuff I read, Hopson isnt really interested at all. Doesnt seem to care to much for Uk.

I was at UHA last week on a sales appointment and was talking with one of their officials and they said that Tubby had called Hopson. I have seen this kid in action and he is the type of athlete that we desperately need. Massive HOPS!!!
I doubt either commits in the near future. I think they want to see how this year goes. If UK is as bad as they were last year there will be serious concern over Tubby's job status. I doubt that happens, but there is no reason not to wait.
We have been complaining for year that KY has little HS talent and that is not the case in 2008. We have to take advantage of this. If we don't get at least one of these kids I will be very disappointed. Both would be great.

Hopson isn't originally from Kentucky, and he's stated that he grew up cheering for the Gators. Hard to lump him in with the Mills/Blevins types that worship UK from the day they're born.

Just our luck. Damn bad luck. We have a player in Kentucky who is on the national scene and he is a Gator fan. I give up. :tongue
