What do you all think about the possible new Reds owners? They are basically coming from The St. Louis Cardinals. The team of owners is:
Robert Castenllini (sp?)
Thomas Williams
William Williams.
They have to sell their share of the team they have in St. Louis before they can take over the Reds. They say the deal should be done by December 1. What do you all think about his? Is it good or bad?

I do not have any knowledge of the new owners. But, the problem with the Reds has been pitching. They can't go out and buy the best available talent out on the market, like the big market teams.
I, personally, would like to see a new GM hired for the Reds. Also, since Pete is not allowed to coach, I would hire Joe Morgan as the head coach and find the best damn pitching coach in the minors and make him the asst. head coach. Bring up young pitchers, from the farm system, and give them on the job training in the bigs. It's time for the reincarnation of the "Nasty Boys". The best bullpen in the history of baseball. The only problem with assembling that much talent, is you can't keep them all together more than three seasons.

Maybe the new owners won't be stingy to go out and buy those pitches that we been so lacking of? Carl Linder was only concern about making or breaking even. Wasn't interested in signing offseason free agency where he would had to open his wallet. I think the new owners will be especially since they are local boys. So, new ownership can be a great deal for Cincinnati.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this ownership group. Coming from the Cardinals can't be bad. Plus Castellini was a part owner of the Orioles in the early 90's when the Oriloles were good, before Angelos bought them. I hope they will devote their money into rebuilding the farm system and making it rich and deep with MLB prospects. The A's,Twins and to a certain extent the Braves have done this with good success. Going out and throwing all your money at free agents is risky at best and often times a disaster. If you have the prospects then you can often trade them for established MLB players and then fill in the gaps with free agents. I really hope they go with this approach and then the Reds can be a viable contender every year. Not once a decade.

Plus, how does the new owners going to take with Griffey? Is Griffey done as a Red? I know for the last few years, fans wish he would be traded. Will the new owners decide to go and and do that?
We need owners in here that will be willing to make moves that's good for the team. I felt Carl Linder didn't want to do that. Also, I hope the new owner will relook at the manager and get somebody else than who we have now.

I would trade Griffey for one solid pitcher and a handfull of top draft picks, hoping to find a diamond of a pitcher in the draft.
The beginning of the endfor the Reds was when they traded for Griffey.
His high salary and fragile health will prevent much value in return from any trade, but I would pull the trigger in a heart beat.

Who could had predicted all the injuries that Griffey has been through though? It's a hugh burden ona local sport hero coming back to play professional sports in front of hometown. I think he was just trying to hard and these injuries occurs. He still has trade value if he can stay healthy. If he does stay healthy, he can also help a team only if we have a solid pitching staff.
