Officials with the Fayette County attorney's office confirmed Wednesday that charges have been filed against a UK football player after a 20-year-old Lexington woman claims a he punched her in the face on a Lexington street in late July.

Joe Reuben (Joe Joe) Brown is a backup quarterback for the Wildcats. Heis charged with fourth degree assault and will be served a summons to appear in court.

The alleged incident occurred on July 22 on the corner of State Street and Elizabeth Street. The alleged victim, Brooke Fugate, says she was in a car with a female friend at about 3 a.m. when they pulled over to say hello to someone they recognized. Fugate says that several men who she didn't know surrounded the vehicle.

"Then I feel something on my leg and I was like, "What was that?'" said Fugate, who said Brown spilled beer on her because she wouldn't let him take her home. "So, I got out of the car and was like, 'You do not pour beer on girls'...and I went to throw a beer on him and he punches me in the face and I hit the ground and I fell on my face. I get up thinking, I guess naive, that the other guys would have pulled him away. And we were with like ten guys and they are all around us laughing."

I assume that was directed at me, and don't misunderstand me.

Clearly, he shouldn't have been out drinking at 3:00 a.m., for many reasons. Clearly, some altercation occurred, which again was wrong.

He's not been found guilty of it. Everyone seems to agree that something happened. The facts will come out eventually, and if it is as been reported, he should be kicked off the team, and face whatever legal/civil penalties due.

However, ultimately,this is a legal issue, and until the facts come out, I see no point in putting it up for fodder on a "smack" forum.

This has nothing to do with the upcoming games, nor does it have anything to do with the rivalry, in general, in my opinion.

That being said, justifying bad behavior by citing bad behavior doesn't fly with me.

If it's proven that he smacked a woman, then by all means, line him up and have the rest of the team take turns smacking him.

I just think there's so much more a fan of such a powerhouse NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDER (tongue firmly in cheek) would have better things to smack about.

But, that being said, I've seen some of the UL smack boards, and I guess that is about par for the course.

the fact that i'm a mod has nothing to do with this thread. i was simply stating the fact that the UK fans who frequent the smack board would be all over this. if we are only going to have threads about UL and no rebuttals from UL fans what is the point of this board. IMO some people on this board take this to heart a little more than needed.
