It's not looking good for the 2nd season of the Colonels. They owe the city for use of The Gardens and the coach resigns. Ican't believe everyone wants the NBA, but no one supports the teams we have now. I know the talent level cannot be compared but I went to several games last year and it was pretty good ball.

I think if the NBA isn't stamped on the sport that we won't get support for it. People turn out for actual NBAexhibition games. Kentucky Colonels isn't NBA. I hate to say this but it's a bunch of players that aren't good enough for the NBA or just hope to get a chance to get back into the NBA. If Colonels was one of 28 teams of the NBA, then people would come out and support it. But they aren't.

I don't think an NBA team would be supported very well in Louisville either. You'd have some turnout the first year or two and then support would wither greatly. It would be like when the Redbirds came to town except that after the novelty wore off the team would not generate enough revenue to stay afloat in Louisville, and would move on to another city.
DenCat, people told me they didn't go to Colonels games because the crowd was kind of rough. Any thoughts on that?

This is just M.O., but I think people in this area would support an actual NBA franchise. That's what they're waiting on (I know I am), and anything less than that is not acceptable. I understand the argument about lack of support for minor league teams not boding well for an NBA team, but I don't know that it's necessarily a fair comparision.
There is a HUGE difference in asking people to put out their hard earned dollars to see the likes of Shaq, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, and the other NBA stars night in and night out, as opposed to watching a team composed of players trying to make the NBA, whose only connection to the people is that they played locally at the college level, and even then only a handful of players on the team fall into that category. Along with that, the level of management required to maintain an NBA team is a lot higher than that of the minor leagues, so you wouldn't be faced with the problems that have arisen for the Colonels in recent days.
I guess one way to say it is that the people are expecting champagne and they've been offered beer up to this point.

I don't think the crowd was too rough. IMO the location of The Gardens kept people away. I have been to that arena for dfferent type of events over the years and never had a problem. I can understand people not wanting to go to an place, at night, where they don't feel safe.

Ithink support of minor league teams would be a major factor for anyNBA teamto consider when looking for a new home.If we cannot support theteams we currently have, why would any professional franchise even look at us, other than the fact they would get a new arena to play in. Idon't think this city would support the NBA.

Kentucky has a minor league basketball team? :shock:I had no idea, I just thought there was baseball and used to be the Thouroblades. Wow! New to me! I'd go if it was in Lex, which I think would have very supportive fans of ANY type of bball team. (and is closer to me)
