David Jones is looking to get offensive for the Kentucky Wildcats.

The former Belfry star isn't trying to offend anyone, but he is getting a look on the offensive side of the ball for the first time since high school.

Jones starred at both running back and defensive back for the Pirates, leading the team to back-to-back state titles in 2003 and 2004. The all-stater was signed by the Wildcats as a defensive back and played in several games last year as a true freshman, mostly at cornerback and on special teams.

Jones suffered a knee injury during the Wildcats' season-ending loss to Tennessee.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Jones was ready to go when Kentucky opened training camp earlier this month.

I wan't expecting that move. I know he has great speed but I figured he would be more needed on the defensive side of the ball. But I have to credit Coach Brooks for allowing him to try something he wants to try. I would have pegged Jones as a starter at CB. If his hands are good enough to play at the collegiate level offensively he could be a big time player and make Coach Brooks look like a genius. If Uk gets passed on hard and Jones doesn't catch anything, I look for him to be moving back because I see him as a solid corner. Just my 2 cents.

Or, we could read something into the performance / depth of the WRs so far in camp. Hard to tell.

Coach Brooks stated at Media Day that Jones does not yet have the capacity to shake off a play if he gets beat. He tends to hang his head. As we have all heard a thousand times, a CB must have a short memory. Jones certainly has the talent to play CB but maybe the personality to better play receiver. The way he covers kicks as a gunner, IMO, he can pay his way on the coverage team alone. In case you think I am coming down on him I am not. David Jones is one of my favorites.

David is a good player and an even better person. He will do and be just fine. I believe he should stay at CB, and on special teams in which he did very well last season, i thought. Since we have a stuffed back field, i don't think he could be there this year, but i hope he gets a chance one of these days.. he is a very good runner... i am not the coach, but wide out wouldn't be the position, i think about when i think of David, but whatever i guess.
