Jeff Drummond on TCP talked to Patterson today for an interview. Patterson asked Tubby if he could come to Midnight Madness and they are working out the plans. Him and Jai Lucas have become very good friends lately and Jai will also be attendance.

Guys, this is looking very good. :thumbup

Wow... a recruit asking the coach if he can come instead of the coach asking the recruit to be there! Wow!

Good news indeed!

It is good news for sure. Not sure about my feelings on getting Lucas with Porter and Jasper on board, but if it gets Patterson here, then OK with me. Both are stellar players at their respective positions. :thumbup

that's what i thought.. maybe it was the other way around, surely... the recruit that may decide your future at a school. you would think the invitation would have already been out.. regardless, if both lucas and patterson are coming in for a visit.. DO NOT tell them to take other visits, get them to commit that night...

I think Tubby sees Jasper as a combo, able to play three positions, depending on the need. Porter may be able to play two positions. I think Lucas would fit in nicely.

I hope the students get wind of how big that visit is and does something to catch their attention... Chanting their names or something along that line... just to acknowledge that we want them in UK blue...

VERY good news but let's stay reasonably subdued. Both Lucas and Patterson are players and potential next-level types. I hope both do follow through and attend.

Based on the KSR interview, Lucas indicated that he and Patterson talk nightly. Sounds like to me that they have orchestrated this visit together. Who knows?Maybe they have decided to commit to the Cats that night too! Wouldn't that be a dream come true!

Sounds insanely good to me. Hopefully we can get the deal closed out and take care of business and get a commitment...

Great news indeed if this is true. Now even greater news would be if Patrick where to cancel his vist to that swamp and bug infested state south of Georgia.

With as much publicity as Patterson and Lucas have gotten on these message boards, and because it's pretty widely known that Tubby has had a rough time recruiting, I can see Rupp Arena getting PUMPED for these kids. Your average UK fan is going to know who these kids are. Your average Florida fan is going to be thinking about tailgaiting the next day.

Patterson and Lucas might be able to say no to Tubby. They'll find it hard, however, to say no to 25,000 people chanting their names. :D

Awesome news.

That's what I was saying.... I haven't been to MM in awhile.. do the students do that??? Also, is MM slated to be in Rupp again this year, or was last year a one time deal?

Wether or not you are a Tubby fan, I think it is very important that Tubby be shown a lot of respect when these guys are around. From what I have read the uncertainty of Tubby's future at Kentucky has helped kids make the decision to go elsewhere. These recruits must beleive that Tubby is here to stay. In fact he probably is going to be here fo a while, so we may as well try to use that to our advantage.

Memorial isn't scheduled to be completed in its renovation until end of the year with access to the new areas to be opened in Jan. 2007. So my take is the MM should be back in Rupp again this year. Perhaps permanently.

EXCELLENT point, WildFan. A loud MAJORITY can drown out a loud MINORITY. :ggrin:Indeed, if Patterson and Lucas are at Midnight Madness, they need to feel LOVE for Tubby Smith.

By the way, I read Drummond's piece while using my son's membership in that premium board. Patterson says that Tubby is a great coach, one of the best in the nation, and that he seems to be a coach for which he would enjoy playing. Again,UK fans who are sayingessentially the same about Tubby's coaching abilityare the ones Patterson needs to be hearing, and may he indeed hear the LOVE for Tubby Smith if he attends Midnight Madness. :)

They had a big crowd there last year so I can't imagine they won't do it again this year in Rupp.

I've stated before that the fan "divisiveness" is way overstated and primarily a product of internet message boards and talk radio. For evidence to back up my assumption one only needs to be in Rupp this October 13 when, just like last year (and previous years in Memorial), 24,000 screaming fans will begin chanting "Tub...by, Tub...by..." just before the head coach of our Wildcats is introduced and runs onto the floor. I predict that fan divisiveness will have left the building by that time and recruits will be duly impressed with the love being shown our coach. I was there last year and that is absolutely the way it was and the way it will be again. And, BTW, moving MM to Rupp was absolutely the right thing to do. Anyone there last yearcan attest, the atmosphere was unbelievable! I can't wait for this year's event and you can count on the fact that Patterson & Lucas will see 110% of my UK love on that night. I would hope every fan attending will commit to the same.

I was at MM last year in Rupp and hope to be again this year. I gave all I had for Tubby and every player there and will do the same this year. I left there last year really thinking we would have a very good team, but unfortunately by Ky. standards it did not happen as I thought it would...but....I THINK THIS YEAR WE ARE GONNA HAVE A VERY GOOD TEAM, and I will think that untill/unless I am proven wrong. Goooooooooooooo CATS. Man, I just watched the clip of the 1994 comeback over LSU and I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo pumped....

I just think we underachieved horribly last year. seriously, at the end of the season before we were talking number 8.

All it will take for our MM recruits to get a bad taste would be for them to hear some boos when Tubby's name is announced. Does anyone honestly think that might not happen?

If we can all just remember why we are there and forget our disapointment at the previous season and give this team a chance to prove themselves, everything will be fine. After all, ifI didnot LOVE:D LOVE:D LOVE :Dthe cats more than everything( except God and family) I would not bother to go. I sure hope that the team, Tubby and especially the recruits get shown plenty of rowdy, loud BIG BLUE LOVE!!!!!!! It is a well known fact that nationallymidnight madness at KY is like no other. This can only help with the recruits. Hurry up October 13th.

GO CATS!!

GREAT post, fanaticfan! :)Too, exactly, sure last season was disappointing. Yet, EVERY UK who attends Midnight Madness must indeed forget that disappointment and let THIS TEAM have a chance to prove itself, as you say.

Further, showing Tubby the love as the fans did last year (according to the post by trublue4life) can ineed "help with recruits." That night can be HUGE for recruiting and the UK basketball program. I really believe that. :)

Neither do I. Not at Midnight Madness. The kind of people that would boo the player or coach probably wouldn't show up for an event like Midnight Madness. There could be a few there, but they'll be drowned out by 24,000 other frothing-at-the-mouth, excited fans.

I doubt anyone will boo tubby, and if they do, at least while they are at an event like that they really should be somewhere else. Thats worse than stalker fans, like UofL fans that show up at uk games just to boo us or something.
