Today August 16th 2006 marks the 29th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley..boy it does not seem that long ago..........I can still remember hearing it for the first time on the radio on my way home from work..
Fans flocked at Graceland today to honor his memory

I've always wondered what would have happened if Jesse Garon Presley had lived. He was reportedly buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave, because Elvis's parents couldn't pay for a funeral.

Depends on the station.
WRKA and WASE have been running Elvis stuff every hour today. WRKA ran clips from WKLO radio breaking the news that day.
Sure doesn't seem like 29 years, though.
I recall going to a friend's house to see if he'd heard the news, and his mom was crying and bawling out her husband for not taking her to see him in Louisville in `76, lol.

I was ten years old at the time and living in Southern California. I heard it on a LA television station. Then I told my mother who was born in 1940 in Louisville and a die hard Elvis fan. She refused to believe it until the national news broke in with the news of his death. Sadly Elvis had too many hangers on and enablers in his live or otherwise he might still be with us. A tip of the hat to you today Elvis and you know what.......29 years after your untimely passing your still cool.

And wasn't Elvis supposed to be the first BIG act to be in concert in the new Rupp Arena just a few days after his death?

The King is gone but he's not forgotten?
I thought that was the story of Johnny Rotten!
