LEXINGTON, Ky. — To one side of Keenan Burton was a wide receiver. To the other was a defensive end.
This was last fall, and Burton, the University of Kentucky wide receiver, was nowhere near a football field.
"I remember one day sitting in the training room and being like, 'It's crowded in here,' " said Burton, who missed four games with an injured foot. "It was kind of ridiculous."
That was the story of UK's 2005 football season. The Big (black and) Blue saw 17 players miss a combined 80 games during a 3-8 campaign.
"It was ugly in that training room," said defensive tackle Ricky Abren, whose preseason wrist injury cost him four games. "Just depressing."
"It was like we just ran out of luck," said safety Marcus McClinton, who started the first two games before a knee injury sidelined him the rest of the way. "It turned into a MASH unit in there."
And the way the Wildcats see it, their luck can't get any worse.
