David Jones had gotten used to life as a cornerback at Kentucky, playing in all 11 games as a backup last fall and being one of several candidates fighting for a starting spot this season.

But there was some envy when Jones lined up opposite the Wildcat receivers, as he wondered what life would be like on the other side of the ball.

Jones gave in to temptation earlier this week when he went to UK Coach Rich Brooks and asked to be given a look at wideout.

"I've always wanted to try receiver," he said. "It's been in my heart since I got up here. I'd like to have the ball in my hands and see what I can do with it. I want to be a playmaker."

Jones' move is just one of several position changes the Wildcats implemented this week. Redshirt freshman linebacker Ben Bates moved from middle linebacker to fullback, and true freshman Justin Jeffries switched from defensive tackle to offensive tackle.

Brooks has made a fairly common practice of moving guys around during his UK tenure.

You can't teach speed, it just depends on how quick the young man learns the routes

I doubt that any of those three will see the field against UL other than on special teams. I would also be surprised if Jeffries didn't redshirt as we finally have some depth on the OL.
