I planted four habanero pepper plants this year andyield looks real good. Now the question...what canI do with them? I've got one good recipe for jerk chicken, one forhot pepper jelly, and other than that I'm at a loss. Can they be dried and stored?

Help me out ye backyard gourmets!

Too hot for this wuss, but my hubby loves them. He planted serano peppers like he does every year and the rabbits or something else ate the blooms as soon as they appeared. I use them in my salsa. I have a dehydrator and used it last year then froze the dried ones. Worked great in recipes.

I don't have specific recipes, but I add diced habaneros to my chili, home made salsa, queso dip, etc.

I have some habaneros and jalapenos frozen whole in the fridge for chili this fall.
Some I've dried in the oven at about 130-150 degrees so I can crush them to add to my rubs for my chicken, pork and fish.
I put out 2 jalapeno plants and one habanero. I have thus far nearly 2 gallons of jalapenos and about 1 gallon or so of habaneros.
The jalapenos for the most part have been a disappointment, heat wise. Many are like eating a bell pepper. The jalapenos I've grown in the past have been significantly hotter than these.

I once made some chili with habanaros in it. I washed my hands very well after cutting them and later proceeded to take my contacts out and set the first eye on "fire". I then washed a bunch more times and went to take out the second only to do it again. The next day i went to put the contacts back in, only to find they were still "contaminated" :shock:and had to toss them. What a truely painful experience !!!

:ggrin::shock:

Since getting contacts 3 years ago, I've quickly learned to wear disposal latex gloves when dicing jalaps and habbies.:thumbup

Standing in a CS gas chamber with out a protective mask (which I've done a few times ) is a walk in the park compared to that, it was pure torture.

Yes, it is.

I still have problems after smoking a cigar. A less than thorough hand washing results in burning, watery eyes upon removing my contacts - merely from holding a stogie.

I had gone out to the garden about a month ago to check for aphids and in the process checked on my habaneros. Didn't touch the fruit, only brushed the leaves back to inspect. I went straight to the house andwashed my hands. Went to bed that night and woke up about 2:00 in the morning with my face feeling likesomeone had rubbed icy hot on it. Apparently, I'd gone to sleepwith my hand under my face. Guess it's a good thing me and the wife didn't get intimate that night huh?
