:XAs this recruiting season progresses, I get more and more confused and upset at our apparent bonehead process. Some of it makes absolutely no sense to me and obviously to others as well.

We will lose Thomas, Perry, Woo, and likely Morris or some others and have nothing to fill in the blanks with (no offense to Stevenson and Carter). We have put all our eggs into the Patterson basket and will live and die with his commitment or rejection, while other "target" wander off to "greener pastures". We have tons of PT available for studs, yet cannot get more than 1 to visit. A good recruit like Stewart seems to like UK yet we get in on him late in the process (as usual) and fail to offer him. But we did not forget to offer kids in 08. Go figure. IT is like Tubby only has one or 2 spots to give and is afraid to over-recruit. At this rate, he may be lucky if he doesn't have to fill in the blanks with late bloomers only. That would be devastating for UK and him, IMO.

I am starting to scratch my head more each day on this staff's tactics in recruiting. All I can say is that Smith MUST GET PATTERSON, for more reasons than simply he is a great player. Let's hope's Tubby's tactics work this time.

Color me confused.

I wouldn't call him a stud, unless he's a SF, because he's only 6'7 180, he would certainly be a good find to replace perry if he has any kind of shooting ability.

My thoughts exactly. He sounds like he can handle a solid mid-range game and be able to get some boards. Could DEVELOP into a PF but isn't one just yet. Of course, it appears that we like to make SF pretend to be PF so he would fit right in. I still don't understand why he hasn't been offered. I don't pretend to know precisely how everything in recruiting and all of the aspects of recruiting work. But I do know this, someone that exhibits the ability to play good at a collegiate level in a position that is deathlyneeded on my team and seems to have some form of potential possibility of coming to my team would get offered...especially since other players that I'm after are being highly recruited as well by excellent programs. This gives "playing the field" a whole new meaning. We need to get offers out to the kids that can play for us with solid outcomes. Maybe I'm missing something and I'm hoping I am. Patterson is moving into more of a must have recruit that he has been for us yet. The more players we get a late start on are the more players we have a less likely chance of landing. It is important to get on these kids quick and try to get a verbal out of them as soon as possible. I understand that Tubby is stand up guy with great character and is a good coach. He just needs to get the kids to sign on and be a part of Kentucky tradition. If he gets the players he, he will win. The players have to get here though.

Sorry, end rant.

EDIT: He is already friends with Jodie Meeks and is friends with Patterson...seriously, why haven't we offered him yet?

I won't say I understand why KY hasn't offered Stewart a scholly already but FWIW, I just learned today from a premium article that his other favorite, Okla. St., also has NOT offered yet.

I think this kid would be a great fit at KY. He certainly understands the UK legend and its fans. Asked why KY, he replied, "It's Kentucky. Everybody dreams of playing for a big-time program and it doesn't get any bigger than KY." Not word for word. But it's pretty close.

According to the article, he is a small forward. But our profile of him says he's a PF. Anyone know which it really is? At his size I would say SF.

I would say Tubby wants to make the offer in person to have more of an impact. Just a guess.

Tubby sitting on your couch, "Son, we want you to come play basketball for the Univ. of Kentucky. I would like to offer you a scholarship."

That sounds like a reasonable guess, Wildcat Derrick. Too, of course, that's only speculating, but that's really all the whole thread is. :)

Here's hoping Mr. Stewart is in great position to qualify, is a young man ofcharacter, and has the skills that we want at that small forward position. Then, indeed, let's hope Tubby sits on that couch, asks that magical question, and gets a commitment right at that moment!

Sure, I, too, am only speculating here. Wouldn't it be nice, though! Then Mr. Stewart could still come to Midnight Madness and help convince Mr. Lucas and Mr. Patterson to join him at UK. I LOVE storybook endings. :)
