Any carpenters on here?

We just got a quote on a new garage (detached), 24x30, vinyl siding, two electric doors, one side door, and a 6' door on back (for lawn mowers and what not...).

The quote seems a bit high to me. I knew it wouldn't be cheap, but I hadn't planned on it being this much.

Is there anyone here who could ballpark a number, based on the very little information I've given, so that I may have some idea if this is a bad deal or not?

5+ years ago I built a 10 x 14 shed (from plans ordered from a catalogue) complete with a 6 foot garage door, ramp and 4' deep porch across the front, vinyl siding, aluminum trim, vinyl gutters and composite railing and porch posts.

Total for materials was around $5,000. I beefed up the floor joists and floor sheeting, as the shed would be setting on 6 piers. I also bought the best shingles I could, as I didn't want to have to be on top of it for a long while. I also opted for premium siding.
Therefore, my material costs were around $35 / SF.

Materials alone for your garage could likely be had for around $20 / SF.

I'm guessing a bare bones would be around $20,000+.

Thanks Surveyor. :thumbup

That's pretty close to what we were told. I was shocked at first...I was expecting more around the 10-12k range. Didn't realize building materials had gone up so much, I guess.

That shed you refer to...is it in a picture you posted on this site recently? Pretty impressive shed.

FWIW, This might give you some ideas about what else is out there. We sell garages and ohter portable buildings. Everything on the outside and underneath is l treated pine, sealed and stained. Built by Mennonites.

A 12x32 Garage is $5,140.00. The one with the deck and loft is $5645.00 for a 12x30. Materials on these probably run about 65% if you get them wholesale.
