The CBS reality show Survivor is going to split contestants up according to race this season. Teams of blacks, whites, Hispanics, and Asians will compete.

Oh dear.

This is the only reality show I watch. (I did watch Treasure Hunters, but it finished up last night) Last season, they split up into young women, older women, young men, and older men....just for one episode. That was ok, imo. But this...

Oh dear.

What's their plan? Have challenges based on sterotypes of what each race is supposed to be better at the the other races? What are they planning on for the season after that? Dividing them between christian, jewish, muslim, hindu, and atheist? The season after that? The political crowd? Democrats, republicans, communists, socialists, facists, and the plain old anti-anything crowd?

NYC needs to stop confusing themselves with the center of the universe, and fix their own damn problems before going on their high horse.

Who are they to decide what CBS can and can not air?

Amen. Who cares anyway? If you don't like the content of a program, change the channel. I wouldn't watch MTV or BET or CNN if someone put a gun to my head.
So who I am to try to force my desires on another person? You have likes and I have likes, what the heck do I care? They can do as they please as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. This doesn't hurt anyone.

If the show is no good, it will fade away and something else will replace it. Shows come and go.

The problem with liberals is they are intolerant and want to force everyone into their little box. This is just another example.

Personally, I don't have much of a problem with it. I don't watch Survivor, but I don't think there's anything "racist" about it necessarily. There are clearly more pressing problems in our world right now.

A decent point someone in this NYC group made is this: "The show emphasizes stereotypes." In fact, none other than Rush Limbaugh has already been talking about this show. His question, "Can black people even swim?"

Now, I don't think Limbaugh's comment is racist, but there is something to be said about letting stereotypes lie. This is just another excuse to get Limbaugh, in all his base stupdiity, and people like him to start hammering away at our differences.

I'll watch it. I'm just not crazy about the gimmick. This show has been unique and really hasn't needed to play the 'gimmick' card, but the past few seasons they're starting to do just that. Gotta "keep it fresh" ,I guess. :?

Off-topic: Remember back when "The Real World" was actually somewhat real, with 6 or 7 people who really were just ordinary people, the kind you might actually run into on the streets of some small town somewhere? Now, its 6 or 7 hunks/babes who only want to see how much they can drink, and cry because so and so won't have sex with me after knowing me for 2 weeks, etc. I miss the old days...

I hope Survivor isn't heading down that road. (Well, rephrase: They are heading down that road...I hope they make a U-turn.)

I hate the "Real World" because it's name doesn't reflect what the show is about anymore.

As for Survivor, this is a touchy premise, and most definitely controversial, but you know, maybe it will make things more interesting. THe teams will only stay split for a couple of episodes anyhow. But what the breaking up into 4 ethnic groups might help is this one tribe getting numbers then just picking off the rest, including players who don't deserve to go but fall victim to the numbers game.

I don't necessarily think Survivor is going the route of the Real World, they still do have a good mix of people in various stages of their lives. They do have to mix in a fair number of hotties to boost viewership, but I don't think Sex is on many of their minds especially after they haven't bathed or shaved for days on end.

What I would like to see survivor do is get away from the deserted Island theme and get back to more of what they did in Africa or the Outback or the Amazon. Quite frankly I think they need to do something like strand them in a remote area of Alaska or somewhere non-tropical, somewhere where they actually have to deal with a colder climate ormountainous terrain.

reality shows are a joke....they have an agenda before the show even starts...if people think everything just happens on those shows...not true...they're just as scripted and thought out as any sitcom or cop drama out there....i used to watch a couple of them, but just got to the point where i couldn't stomach them anymore...survivor being one of them....all it is, is throw in a little racial tension, homosexuality, bleeding heart liberals, christians, buddhists or muslims and mix it all together in a cardboard box and you're sure to have a "show"....

What's everybody so afraid of? I think it might be interesting. Could be all those that are complaining now will be surprised.

I still like the show. I am reserving judgement until I see how it is done...
