Sucks to lose him but it is pretty hard to beat out a guys family.

In my mind, this WAS one that got away. We were on his "high" list as recently as 6 weeks ago. And, like others, for some reason, they just won't come our way.

Certainly we don't need Tubby wasting time on a recruit that has made up his mind he isn't coming here. So all that means is that we whiffed on Southern several weeks ago instead of yesterday.

Actually, we don't have any idea what it means. We have no knowledge of what is happening behind the scenes. Tubby may have been on the phone with this kid and the kid may have told him weeks ago that he had chosen BC for personal reasons. Or whatever. The truth may be far different than what we see written on these or any other boards.

I don't disagree, however, this is still a whiff. This was another big man recruit who, for whatever reason, chose to go somewhere else.

And I believe that the reoccuring issue on these boards is not to lament any single whiff, it's the cumulative whiffing that is getting bothersome, and the fact that we are down to only a handful of viable prospects for 2007.

Of course, we can always wait till spring to see what new hot recruits surface after this season. Florida, Duke, UNC, et al will already have their recruiting class completed and will have no more room. (please read final paragraph with the sarcasm that is intended)

I agree with you on the cumulative affect of not getting ANYONE lately. It is disheartening and it makes you wonder what is really going on out there. What is the difference in the recruiting program at UK and anywhere else that we can be the #2 school on half the recruits' list and ALL of them end up going elsewhere, when there is so much PT available here. It is mind boggling. But speculation is just that, speculation. We don't know what's happening in reality and the internet has put a good deal of misinformation out there so you don't really know what to think. I think I was happier when I didn't know who we were recruiting and just who we signed.

I think the cumulative effect is making people over react to this one. If we signed Southern he would not exactly excite anyone other that we actually had a verbal which is better than not having one. He is not in the top 100 and is a tweener. I would take him since at this point we need bodies, but he is far from an impact player that we need. As I said on another thread, the only way this is remotely a big deal is if we whiff on every other big man prospect we are after. Almost every other player we are recruiting is ranked higher than this kid.

It is troubling that we keep whiffing though, I agree with that. I understand why people are getting upset, I just think this particular kid not coming is getting blown out of proportion. I think Hickson dropping us off his list is way more troubling than Southern to BC. If Patterson doesn't come, then it is time to start to panic.

Exactly, UKfaninCO. We are all only speculating. We have "no knowledge of what is happening behind the scenes," as you say.

Too, as RCS just said, let's just wait and see if we get Patterson. If not, THEN we can "start to panic."

This is a joke. The kid has family that works at BC. Everyone said 2 weeks ago that it was gonna be BC. If would we have gotten this kid (who is ranked #125 just like Sheray Thomas was) then you Tubby haters would have jumped all over this saying, "We always settle for the scrubs, why cant we get any of the big name guys." To say we whiffed on this kid is a joke. We have bigger fish to fry.

Hang in there. Please don't get discouraged. Chances are we will not sign any top rated players but that does not mean our recruiting will be a failure. Tubby is good at developing talent.

I agree with you. Pickings are getting slim, and the fans are starting to stress, but we all need to chill for a couple of months to see what kind of class the staff can get for 07.

All the fatalist comments from Kentucky fans aren't helping us with those recruits still considering our school.
