This is per Lance McAllister:
REDS CLOSE TO NAMING THEIR MAN
It is my understanding that the Reds search for their next broadcaster is not only underway....but nearing completion. I believe the next Reds broadcaster can be heard this Saturday afternoon on Fox 19 as the Cubs face the Cards in St Louis...........Thom Brennaman. Don't be surprised if the announcement is made by the end of the season.........IF not sooner
I liked Steve Stewart, but I think a Thom and Marty duo would be really interesting.
FWIW, I heard Marty on the Banana Phone just a month ago say that Thom would NEVER take a job with the Reds because he'd have to take a pay cut.

I think they should just admit that they were wrong and extend Steve Stewarts contract.Last year he started out a little stiff. This year he has been good and gotten better as the year progressed.People that don't like him should get XM radio and listen to some of the others. SS does a good job and has a very good banter with Marty. This is coming from someone who listens to the majority of the games on the radio btw.

I sort of agree. I liked Steve.
The only thing I don't really like about Steve is that he doesn't seem to get excited about the game. He doesn't have that really explosive excitedment that Marty has.
FWIW, the Reds played on Fox a month ago and I noticed that Thom Brennaman was really laying on the praise for the Reds. I thought it was strange, and now I guess we know why.

Steve's biggest problem is the simple fact that he replaced Joe. It is no small task to take over for someone that Reds fans have come to love over so many years. For the most part, I like Steve. I still think it's weird not to hear Marty and Joe. I feel really sorry for the guy that has to take Marty's job.

Redszone.com has been saying the last couple of days that ESPN's Jeff Brantly was now the frontrunner for the job. Maybe he could pitch a couple of innings while Marty is doing his broadcasting. :P

:thumbdownI don't like Brantley. I think it's his greasy mullet that I have an aversion to, though, so at least you don't get to seehim on the radio.

I don't like him either. I hope the rumor isn't true. Brantly will be another Al Hrabosky who denigrates the other team during the entire broadcast. I would like to see Johnny Bench do the games with Marty. But I heard he would have to take a cut in pay from speaking tour to do all the Reds games.Plus I doubt that he would want the travel.
