We had a similar thread about two or three months ago that went pretty well. I'm stuck here until 2:00 am central time, so any random thought, pointless trivia, or otherwise mundane post will be GREATLY appreciated!
-- I still say DIET Mountain Dew Code Red is the greatest invention ever. Where does it hide its calories? I mean, it claims to not have any, but how can something that tastes so good not have even ONE calorie???
-- Did anybody see that ABC "Primetime" show this week that had the man on there that had his TWIN () inside his stomach? That was pretty disgusting...
-- Our high school football team opens its 2006 slate tonight against our border rivals. I'm supposed to be there as an assistant coach. Thank you work!
-- It is GREAT to see Delkfor3 back on this board.
-- NBC showed three episodes of "The Office" last night. The one where Michael Scott thinks he and Jim are best friends was probably the best one, and might even contend for best episode of the season. (What's up, Jim-Bag?) :D
Feel free to add anything you'd like, or if you'd like to argue about the merits of DIET Mountain Dew Code Red, that's fine too...

You invited me...The Diet Code Red does taste pretty good...but it doesn't actually have no calories...none of the Diet sodas are totally calorie free. According to labeling regs anything with less than 5 calories per serving can claim to have none. This would be the reason that a "serving" is 8 oz. even though you rarely still see an 8 oz container for sale. Because if they made a can (which is 12 oz.) a 'serving' then they might end up having to put a calorie count on them. The average 8 oz diet drink actually has 3 calories for the cola flavored ones and 4 calories for the fruit-type ones.

sorry to burst your bubble...on the bright side 4 calories is much better than the 200+ for a regular.

The commercials are louder than television shows. Why? WHY?
You know what I hate? EMO bands that have these whiny, girlish lead singers screaming their 8th grade poetry lesson lyrics three inches from the microphone. What happened to honest-to-god rock music?

5:48 to go in the 2nd quarter...in a shocker, the underdog Rockets are leading our border rival Caldwell Co. Tigers 21-14! Could be a ticking time bomb...they have 55 players to our 30. Conditioning will be a factor...
Good point about Friday night TV. I can't remember the last show I ever wanted to stay in and watch that night.

I really love candy bars. I mean, I really, really love candy bars.
Every time I eat one, though, I hear my grannie's voice in the back of my head, "Those things are dirty!"
She claimed that candy bars are unsanitary. As proof, she told a story about someone she knew eating a Mars bar once and a worm crawled out of it.
I love candy bars. I don't much care for Mars, though, for some reason.

Hmmm. I don't know. I'm not sure what the rule is on candy bars eaten at two different times during the day. Normally I just scarf them down one right after another. There might be some grace period where the guilt and suffering and excruciating pain you surely felt when you bought two 600-calorie candy bars will wear off.

A king size candy bar has to be, what, a half-foot long?
Plus they're about four inches thick.
You add in the Styrafoam bucket of soda and the 36-pack of chewy-candies-gummy-wormies, and it starts to get fairly obscene.
Welcome to my life.

No thank you...DIET Mountain Dew Code Red for me. The hefty dose of caffeine will get me going, and the less-than-five calories make me feel pretty good about myself.
(Yeah, I'm just now having breakfast. Pretty sad.)
Will Lavender
08-26-2006, 10:05 AM
About a year ago, I became addicted to Diet Mountain Dew, including its Code Red cousin.
It was a sad situation. My wife was a bit worried about me. Diet Mountain Dew for breakfast, for lunch, two for dinner. Every day.
I was a caffeine-addled mess. I Googled some clinics in the South, just to see if there was an outpatient opening somewhere, but apparently Diet Mountain Dew addictions are rising steadily alongside meth and Cracker Barrel habits. There were no spots for me.
Anyway, I started to get some hellacious heartburn. Every night. I'd wake up at 2 or 3 and feel like somebody was scrambling eggs in that tube that runs down the middle of your body.
Obviously, because of my 5-a-day DMD habit, I thought the elephantine caffeine intake was to blame.
So I weaned myself cold turkey off the Dew, and the heartburn stopped.
Occasionally I'll indulge myself. I'll stick a Dew in my pocket and take a suck like I'm pulling from a flask, with my head turned to the side so that my wife can't see. But I've cut the habit down to about 1 Dew every month or so. Worked like a charm.
Littlemeyer
08-26-2006, 10:34 AM
I believe I would just have to settle for the heartburn. I am at roughly 3/day right now, with the occasional 4th and 5th thrown in when I really want to get crazy.
I did quit all soft drinks, cold turkey, once, for about 10 months. Only drank water. This was before I drank diet drinks, and at that time I was enjoying 7-8 Non-DIET Mountain Dew Code Red's each day...120-150 calories at a time. I also weighed more than I ever dreamed this high-metabolismed body could weigh. I did not change anything else...just cut soft drinks out and substituted in water...and in 5 months had dropped about 15 pounds. And felt great.
Water became my caffeine. I'd wake up at 4:30 a.m., and chug one of those BIG bottles of Dasani (refilled with Marion's finest tap water), and I swear it had the same effect that caffeine did. Or I had myself fooled into believing it did.
Anyway, that wore off. I was dragging just to get through a day at work. I refuse to drink coffee, because everybody at work drinks coffee, and they keep telling me to just wait, I'll drink coffee soon too. Nope.
Then, along came DIET Mountain Dew...and a few weeks later, we found a store here that carried DIET Mountain Dew Code Red. And here I am. If I knew how happy a lark was, I would claim to be in a similar state of happiness, if said state exceeds that of not being able to drink a Code Red. :thumbup
