I learned in a 1964 Pontiac Tempest. It was the first new car my Dad ever owned. It was navy blue with a six banger and 3 on the tree. I remember that car well.
This one isn't blue but shows the car well enough.

I love those old fords. Even as a kid my favorite car was the 1940 Ford Coupe. I raced slot cars as a kid and my favorite was one with at 1940 Ford Coupe body on the frame.

Yeah, I liked those old Flat Head V8's too. Loved them in fact. My older cousin owned 1950 Ford Sedan that looked a lot like this one. It was a sweet machine.

There are some of those cars available for sale. You didn't say if you wanted one already restored or one to restore yourself. Here is one for sale in TN.

Thanks frethrow....light metalic green. They was a shenanigan or two in the back seat! The windows were so airtight that in the heat of a Lexington summer day the air pressure built too fast and , BOOM, the passenger window was on the lawn in a billion pieces.

Mom's was tan/gold and white. She bought it when I was eight, so I earned the right to drive the car by doing eight years worth of wash 'n wax. I learned about chamois cloths, removing water spots, using a high quality paste wax (which I use to this day), and patience. That was a lot of car for a little kid to cover.....
I loved the Indian-head hood ornament. Wonder how that would fly in our more PC times?

One advantage kids have living on a farm is that you learn to drive just about everything. With the huge fields there is little danger. I rented a house on a farm for a few years. I remember letting my little 13 year old sister in law drive my old pickup around in the field. She loved that so much and could not thank me enough for letting her do that. Of course she wanted to visit every weekend after that. :)
