As far as songwriting and genuine talent....The Stonesnor anyother group even comes close.

Freddie Mercury was a genuine rock god.

not a very fair comparssion in my opinion. queen was based on alot of things. the stones were just a straight ahead blues based rock band. the beatles was something different as well... so i don't think you can compare, just my opinion though. queen was a talent though, some of their later stuff went off into directions i didn't care for.. i would lump queen with bowie era ziggy star dust, not just for androgny elements but alot of their stylings are the same... the lead guitar player for the spider from mars and brian may sound exactly the same, alot of the same pharasing..

Couldn't agree more. Queen was and is one of my all time favorite bands. I always felt they were under-appreciated in the USA. Some of their later stuff may have gone a different direction than their early successes, but it was still good. I read once that Queen was the only band ever that each member of the band penned a top 10 hit.

And, yes you can compare those bands on what he asked...songwriting and genuine talent. Thats a very fair statement, IMO.

My kids like Queen, but they say that calling them the greatest or their songs the greatest is, well, something like bullpucky.

:cool:I also love Queen but as has been noted above they were a different style of band than the Rolling Stones (my very favorite ever)....in the day I used to drop acid and listen to Queen's first album.

I went to graduate school with an artist who remixed Queen songs. That was her schtick: remixing Queen. She put the songs into this computer and screwed them all around and blared them out of these huge stadium speakers.

It was one of the coolest things I've ever heard.

She received a Master's of Fine Arts for it.

Queen were miles ahead of the Stones in originality, Musicality, Writing and Performing. I can't think of a single area were i would pick the Stones over Queen! Freddy Mercury could sing songs that other people look really bad just attempting. I really can't think of another band that were as deverse and as fearless as Queen.

I still love it. That's one of greatest "max-volume" songs ever. I remember near the end of 1999, when there were all kinds of "greatest _______ of the century lists" being put out, what was supposedly the most-acknowledged-as-official list of Greatest British Rock Bands of the Century had Queen ranked #2, behind only the Beatles, which was a bit of a surprise at the time, given the longevity and commercial success of the Stones. As for myself, I prefer The Who, but Queen was one of the most unique and talented groups ever.

Queen is one my favorites. What sports fan couldn't like them? They had two of the best sports songs of all time;Another One Bites the Dust and We are the Champions!

I will admit that queen may have been ahead of their time in certain instances, i just don't think in america they are held up with the same vigor that they are in europe

You can add me to the list of Queen lovers. I have enjoyed their music from the beginning. What an array of talent! I love the Sheer Heart Attack album. They were quite diverse too in the types of music that they chose to do.:thumbup

There are numerous Queen songs I enjoy, but I wouldn't rank them in my top 5 favorite bands or even top 10. There's likely not one Queen album I'd care to own, but I do own the Greatest Hits collection (3 albums), which contains all the Queen songs I care to listen to...........and even then there's several that I routinely skip.

Certainly Queen had a niche, but to say they were better or even as good as the Stones isn't an opinion I'd hold.

Freddie Mercury is the greatest-front-man lead singer ever. I don't think guys like Mick Jagger, Robt. Plant, Steven Tyler, Bono you name them....would even argue with that. He had the greatest voice, widest range, of any.

Having seen them 3 times live I can say that their music live was a clean and crisp as it was from the studio. Roll back to Live Aid and you will recall that they were judged the greatest band of that great day. They took the stage with no warm up and proceeded to blow everyone away.

Freddie could hold the audience in the palm of his hand and I loved it when he'd go through the little singing interaction with the audience wrapped around "Now I'm Here"... Queen fans will know what I'm talking about.

mercury might could sing lower than plant, but certainly not higher, back in the zep hey day....i think that's why plant struggles now, he blew himself out back in the 70's...

Queen never grabbed me completely, but they had some good tunes and brian may was a unique player...he played the guitar his dad made him for years....and i think he played with coins instead of picks to get a bite...billy gibbons plays with a peso, or used to...

If I were a major league relief pitcher, there is absolutely no doubt that my entrance music would be "Under Pressure."
