MBA has a tough $&% program. They always play X and Trinity tough early in the season. 23-21 is still arespectable loss.
Off the subject, but I love seeing X and Trinity go out of state to play big name programs. MBA, Moeller, Cincy X, etc...it's great as an alum to see these type of matchups. My old roommate went to Saint Thomas Aquinas in FL...I'd love to see how they match up against Lakeland and STA.

I think the writing is on the wall that the parochial schools in Kentucky will soon be playing in either a Catholic League (As in Columbus) or a "nonpublic" league as in New Jersey. In Jersey, the private schools play for the nonpublic championship in the various classes. In Ohio, the Catholic schools can still compete for state championships against public schools, but they have a very difficult time getting public schools to play them.
I think you will see Trinity, St.X etc increase the number of out of state private schools on thier schedule, simply as a result of scheduling problems, i.e. the public schools won't play them.
In Columbus, at least the private schools can stay in state due to the number of catholic high schools in Ohio, in Kentucky IMO this would be much more difficult.

As do I but it definitely appears to be the trend nationally. Having attended and played for Louisville Trinity back in day, I can attest to the fact that parochial schools do enjoy many advantages that the public schools do not.
In Ohio, Catholic schools have "districts" that mandate if I a kid lives in a particular geographical boundary he/she attends a designated Catholic school. When I was at Trinity we had guys fromevery corner of Jefferson County as students and many times student athletes.
I should note the OhioHigh School Athletic bylawsexempta private school classified as a "preparatory"school from the district limitations.
I do understand the frustrations of the public schools but I am just not sure what the answer is.

Not to mention players from the surrounding counties, Particularly Oldham. I played for Oldham County and we could have had some pretty darn good teams if some of the guys who left the county to play for Trinity or X stayed behind to play for Oldham.

If that is the case, I hope Trinity and St. X cancel all local games and only play private schools and out of state schools. See if the JCPS schools can take a hit in attendance that these two schools offer them each year.

Back when I was in high school we always played Montgomery Bell Academy out of Nashville as our first scrimmage game every year. (Warren Central) They were ranked nationally 2 out of the 4 years we competed. We got the best of them 3 times while I was in school.
My junior and senior year we split and we played Trinity also those years. Coming from someone who competed against both MBA and Triniy those years - MBA had the better program. JMO during those years!
Their high school campus is pretty sharp also! Their football stadium is the best high school football playing field I have ever seen. Top notch!
Speaking of Public/Private.................if Warren County ever had a school that recruited...<cough> I mean attended from surrounding areas that South Central Kentucky school would be a national power house. Imagine combing the likes of Warren Central, Franklin Simpson, and Bowling Green into one school. Whew.....what a football team!

CaveMan, I do understand where your coming from. The Catholic schools in New Jersey pretty much, with very few exceptions, do play an "All Catholic" regular season. This was a direct result of the New Jersey HS Athletic Commission mandating a "Non Public School Championship in the various divisions. In addition, prior to that, the public schools in Jersey flatly refused to play the Catholic programs in the regular season.
But I guess my point was that in New Jersey where you have literally hundreds of Catholic high schools, that is an undesirable yet viable solution. The same case can be made for Ohio, where the total number of high schools playing football is 789. In theColumbus area alone there are16or so Catholic high schools, all playing football.
In Kentucky, scheduling nothing but other than other Catholic schools, would not be an option, the numbers are just not there. Catholic high schools would be forced to play out of state opponents(As you noted) on aweekly basis. I just don't think that's in the best interest of the kids, students, fans etc.
It's a tough situation for all involved.

Trinity's new stadiums looks pretty nice.
Are you saying that your teams beat Trinity those two years?

No! We lost both years in the state championship game against Trinity! 28 - 14 was the score both years! Weird huh!
Both years has some very controversial calls! I remember Leon Smith returning a kick return for a 100 yrds for a TD. What so bad about that is that in Kentucky High School Football (back then) the rule was that any ball kicked into the endzone was a automatic touchback. The Ref said he wasn't in the endzone when he caught the ball he was on the 1 yard line. The entire stadium could clearly see the kid was standing in the end zone when he caught. Boy was those BOO Birds flying after that play.
They even placed it as a 100 yrd return in the offical score book until our Coach protested several weeks later after the game. Magically the 100 yrd return was removed and a 99 yrd return was penciled in.
WE were up 14-0 and kicking off to them at the beginning of the 2nd half. After that one play and several intriging (spl) calls later you could have put a fork in us.
BAck then Louisville Male was a power house and we beat them both years to get to the championship game.
I've always believed and always will that the KHSAA is one of the most corrupt organizations in Ky.

Trinity handed the game to MBA when they should have went for a fourth and one in MBA territory with two minutes remaining. Instead, they punted into the endzone....MBA started on their twenty and marched in two plays into scoring position. Has to be one of the worst calls I've EVER seen out of Coach Beatty.:?

ukhas7,i thought about that play also, but pretty much agreed with the call..trinity's offense had been going backward for some time..that particular drive, saw only the 3rd down play gain yards...i think he thought about giving MBA the longer field if they punted,vs giving them the ball on the 50 if they dont make the first down..Trinity's offense was not very good the other night..they have some wrinkles to iron out..

Don, We didn't stop MBA on their last drive for a score so to me, the last thing you want to do is give them the ball. They started on the 20 and in one play went further than where we would have given them the ball if we didn't make the 4th down and 1. I didn't agree with the call at the time and told everyone around me we just gave them the game (which we ended up doing).Oh well.....I'll be there to cheer on the Rocks against Manuel this Friday night. :):thumbup

If any coach is on the hot seat it is Bob Sphire's replacement at Lex Cath, Bill Letton.
After the embarassment to ST X, they play at home against Scott Co who has a strong team this year, and Franklin Co who has one of the top QB's in the state.
