Nothing on Google news about this yet but the poster over at TCP says (http://kentucky.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=1499&tid=77793941&sid=&style=2) it's a done deal. I'm not really sure how I feel about that.

I live and work in the Huntington area and I haven't heard anything about it. That would be front page stuff and all over the newscast here. Actually I live in South Point, and it was in the paper about him possibly coming to South Point, but officials at the highschool said he wasn't coming. I'm going to check out wsaz's site, because if it's true it will be on there.

Yes it was on the 6 and 11:00 news about him enrolling Mon at Huntington High. That will be one tough team if he and Patrick can get along and share the ball and media.

from everything Ive read and heard about Patterson he is the more humble and selfless of the two so the "sharing the ball. limelight" burden will be squarely on Mayo's shoulders...I hope and pray Mayo's attitude and ego doesnt have an adverse influence on Patterson as a person first and a player second....ugh Im so sick of the Mayo saga.

I bet (off the record) that Patterson is a bit sick of it too. :?

Huntington High was 3A state champs last year. Mayo was rumored last year to transfer home to play.I watched Patterson in thestate tourney last year and he faced very little competition. I can't wait to go back this year.

O.J. Mayo did not show up at Huntington High Monday morning as expected and reported by news reports on Sunday, but school officials said that the senior basketball star could still enroll at the school later in the day.
The Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper reported that Mayo was in class Monday morning at North College Hill High School amid rumors that he was about to transfer to Huntington High.
"I have no idea where these reports come from, but I talked to O.J. just this morning in my office," NCH athletic director Joe Nickel told The Enquirer. "He has always been enrolled here, and I can confirm he is in class today."
Huntington basketball coach Lloyd McGuffin said on Sunday that he had heard reports that Mayo would enroll at the school on Monday morning, but as of noon Monday the Huntington native had yet to show. School officials said even if Mayo enrolled on Monday he would not have a schedule of classes for at least a day and as an out-of-state transfer would need a tuberculosis test before being accepted.

I hadn't heard anything about it till tonight when I was talking to one of the Doctors that I work with. Said he wanted to move back home, and that is the school he use to go to. Will be playing with Patterson, and a loaded team this season.

Just as Spam posted, he was a no show at HHS today. It would be something to see though. That would be one tough team. Top 5 in the nation I would bet. All starting 5 with top division 1 talent. One of the kids has already signed or verbaled to Oklahoma. We know about Patterson and Mayo, but the gaurd Thomas I think was his last name, is just a junior I think. That kid can jump outof the gym. I'm going to try and see them play as much as I can this year regardless if Mayo comes or not.

I wonder if Mayo has the same publicist as Tom Cruise? Somebody sure works overtime to keep him on the fromt page. I hate this for Patterson, because so much focus will continue to be on the Adventures of OJ. Seems to me that it will cut in on what should be Patrick's farewell senior tour. Hope I'm wrong.

so ironic, i knew and said this kid was trouble and a thug, and that UK did not want any part of him.. some didn't take that advice, it seems sad that his circus will make its way somewhere.
though on a side note, we have no one but ourselves and the m edia to blame for proping these kids up.. it is all interdependent on one another.. so when coaches like huggins pop up or kids like mayo, it is just reflective of the dark underbelly that has become a joke for high school sports in this country.

I don't want Mayo to come to UK--too much baggage--but calling him a thug is a bit much.
He has gotten in trouble at school a couple of times--including being suspended for hitting a girl which is obviously terrible--but the general information I have is that he is not a bad kid. (I have no sources, just know of some folks that have spent some time around him.)
Also, I would suggest toning down the rhetoric--just in case in ends up at UK--and understanding he is a 17 year old kid. Thug? Over the top IMO.

allen iverson and randy moss was said to be good kids, just got into a little trouble here and there, have a possee etc.. much like oj... they aren't thugs either ? i did know some people who were from bell and who went to marshall.
I don't feel there is anything to tone down in regards to OJ, because regardless what ever other stuff he has done and i don't know, anyone that would physically assault a female is pretty low. randy and allen just got into a friendly brawl here and there and toked.. i would rather he not come to my program, and make into a joke... i think you are just asking for trouble with all the baggage with OJ.
BESIDES, i think it is worrying about nothing. i don't think he ends up at UK, let him stay around huntington and then go off to LA>

The attention is sure to be on Mayo now, but maybe Patterson likes that, who knows. If it were me, I'd rather not be in the spotlight. The perks don't justify the hassles, IMO.

Buddah,
We'll just agree to disagree. Calling a 17 year old kid a thug---when as far as I know he has never been arrested--and basing that on being suspeded from school--is over the top IMO
I'm not defending OJ. I know nothing about him (except that I saw him play by chance in an AAU tournament when he was in the fourth grade!!). He may be a great kid and may be a thug. Fact is, neither of us know--so the name calling of a 17 year old kid is over the top IMO.
Also, IMO, that kind of "talk" solidifies the opinon of some on UK fans. I don't want OJ at UK--mainly because of the baggage and the question whether he will be a team player or not--but I'll support him big time if he comes--and until he gives me reason to thing overwise. (i.e. Rashaad Carruth)
Can we withhold judgement--just in case he comes to UK (and, again, I won't shed a tear if he doesn't.)

He is trying to get Patterson to sign and go with him to Southern Cal.

UKCATFAN,
How could you possibly know that to be a fact? Mayo hasn't been in class but a day or so---and may or may not yet have even met Patrick Patterson--much less have a relationship with him.
Also, Patterson's Mom has been quoted often in his recruiting process. I do not think it likely that Patterson will go thousands of miles away from home to play with O.J. Mayo.
That doesn't make it impossible and it is a thought that has crossed everyones mind but to post it appearing as "fact" is premature at best (unless you have some personal knowledge of the situation.)

I certainly don't know the kid but maybe he wants to play on a championship team where he can showcase his talents. At NCH he was "the man" and would have to do everything, teams would put everyone on him and he would not have a stellar year, at Huntington High, the defending state champs and expected champs again, he probably will have a better year due to the level of talent of the other players on the team.
I will give the benefit of the doubt about the character of this young man until he proves otherwise that he is a normal 17 year old and just needs to mature.

Im just glad he wont be coming to UK...whatever school that lands Mayo will be in for a nice little "poking" around by the NCAA.

poking? I think it would deserve a full-fledged rubber glove, vasoline special...but I digress...sad thing is it that kids with that mentality would welcome and embrace the "thug" label more readily than the "good kid" label. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then its a duck. God help me I agree with buddah...:)

dont think walker is academically sound enough to play in college
It was ruled that he had used up all his HS elgibility due to playing in 8th grade. I think he may have played twice as an 8th grader or something weird like that. Anyway, I don't think this hurts his college elgibility, though he will have a good case to go pro if he can get drafted since he will be a year removed from HS basketball.

Calling a 17 year old kid who has never played a college game a thug is a bit much. I know people who have been around him and say he is a good kid with a strong work ethic. I've also watched him play ball quite a number of times and I would be absolutely thrilled to have his talent at UK. Of course, we're not on his list.

I wouldn't call OJ a thug, but I hope he doesn't end up anywhere near UK. I suspect his career and life path though are going to be more like Allen Iverson than Lebron James based on his antics the, well, "bad smell" that surrounds him. The guy has been traded from high school to high school like a free agent. He hasn't been in a program long enough to learn fundamentals, and I don't think that he's coachable.
Hopefully he transcends all that. He needs to if he's ever going to realize the immense talent that he has.
The last thing US basketball, which is in dire straits right now, needs is yet another Allen Iverson/Ron Artest style waste of talent (and life).
But I don't want him anywhere near UK. I'd rather have one Chuck Hayes than 50 OJ Mayos.

THAT is my #1 fear, and why I don't want him around UK. He clearly is one year and on to the NBA anyway. I am not interested in players like that no matter how talented they are.
