The Mystery Recruit Appears??? (http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=855) by Matt Jones @ 2:40 am. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions (http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/?cat=1), UK Basketball (http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/?cat=3), News You Can Use (http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/?cat=6) http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/wp-content/RamonHarris.jpg
I told you folks a few weeks ago that I was hearing from sources that UK was going to have a recruit that “you internet folks know nothing about.” As the days went by my skepticism increased, but now a name has surfaced that may lend validity to the original comments. Ramon Harris, reigning 4A Alaska (yes Alaska) High School Basketball player of the year is rumored to be heading to Lexington to be a part of THIS 06 class. I have been hit with multiple emails mentioning Harris and the possibility that he could be at UK as early as this week. Is it true? I dont yet know, but it seemes to have some legs. So who is Harris? Scout.com described him this way:

I hope this is true. Sounds like a good player.... we need help on the inside for sure.

Was he offered a scholarship?

No idea. I hadn't heard of this guy myself until this article.

Lot of speculation thus far. Someone on Alaska's Rivals site is saying he has already signed with us and should be heading our way. Im sure more will develop on this as the day goes now that word is out.

Very interesting. Talk about out of the blue!

I like this quote from this linked article: http://www.adn.com/sports/high_school/story/6275262p-6152569c.html

HARRIS: West High forward is key to starting the vaunted fast break for the defending state 4A champions.

You may recall that Eric Daniels was super at the outlet pass for the fast break as well!

The numbers pretty much speak for themselves.

Ramon Harris stands 6-foot-5. He averaged a double-double with 16.3 points and 13.1 rebounds, along with three blocks, during the regular season.

Must be a heck of a leaper to average three blocks and 13 rebounds while 6'5

Well, they surely needed another body for practice. Being one scholarship back is doable. Two back? That's tough.

I hope the kid has some real game if this is to happen. Yes, we need another body but we need a body that can produce in games worse.

I don't know. Honestly, I don't mind a 10- or 11-man rotation. If anything, Tubby has been guilty of overusing players in the past.

Of course we're thin in the frontcourt. And we could possibly find ourselves in a situation like we were in 2004, when we had a tremendous starting five and really nobody off the bench.

But I like the freshman class and think Meeks and Jasper are going to perform well for us. I think Carter is going to come along, and at least Woo can get out there and hammer somebody.

We've got 8 pretty good players, which is about average for a top 25 college basketball team.

We've only got 11 players on scholarship, and likely only 7 returning next year (expecting Morris not to come back) Only 2 of those returning are front court players.

If this kid is good enough to expect him to develop and contribute starting next year (his sophomore year), then we better get him on board now. Especially since we've got nothing bagged yet for next year.

i hate to be the downer, but take a look at people who recruited this kid and never offered a scholarships.. rutgers, neberska, santa barbara, charollette.. sounds like a 02 type recruit..BUT anything is better than nothing in my opinion. just wish he was bigger, 6'6 he will under sized alot, but maybe his leaping ability will compensate for it. Hopefully we can get PATRICK PATTERSON and this mystery recruit/project will look better.

I say, if you want to print a story before you find out if it's true or not, get a job with CBS.

Of course, May could be wrong.

You never know with UK Hoops.

HIs size would be fine for a wing which is where we would most likely play him.

He got a good review here.

National Christian Academy

Power forward Ramon Harris (6-7, 2006), who was the Alaska player of the year, has some serious high-major talent. Harris is athletic enough and handles the ball well enough, that he can really play small forward. He can also stroke it from long range, and is strong enough to finish on the inside even if guarded tightly.

Bizarre. A welcome addition, if this indeed pans out.

Tyrone who?
