Say what you like about the defensive improvement that needs to take place, and I agree, but from where I sit, if we're going to lose a game in the next week, I think it's going to be plain ol' tiredness that does us in.

The 'Cats are perfectly capable of winning all the games, and all things being equal, they should. I'm not predicting any losses but if we happen to stub our toe along the way, I think that's the area where the problem will lie.

Also, I prefer to use the word "grounded" now instead of doghouse for the players who don't see the court. It's kinda like your children....tell them the right thing to do and they turn around and do the EXACT opposite. The Lexington-Herald is reporting this morning that Wazoo Sports and WLEX have reached an agreement to air classic UK games along with local high school match-ups for its customers on a subchannel for Lexington residents. According to the report, the channel will be available on Insight channel 524 and on Channel 18.2 when they get it added to the lineup.

Now, for us Louisville area fans, the story also states that Wazoo has an agreement in place with WHAS-11.= but no other information was given.

This service will play classic UK games, some UofL games and will highlight some of the little-known high school teams throughout the state with games and tournaments.

But my favorite part of this service is this gem.

Complementing live high school sports will be UK basketball and football games dating to the early 1950s. He's putting up good numbers, as we all have expected, but suffice to say, the majority of them have been product of work in the paint, where he's obviously more comfortable.

Cal says that he wants to move his game further from the basket to extend his skillset and to show the NBA brass that he's got more all-around game. He also says that if it's not working, then it will be a disservice to him. It is fairly obvious (at least to me) that he is more comfortable doing work down low, or at least with the short jumpers in the paint.

As the season goes on, do you all think the experiment will continue? Or do you think we'll begin seeing him primarily work down low, where he seems to not only be more comfortable, but more productive? Let me remind everyone that two years ago at this point in the season we were 1-1. Last season at this time we were 0-2, having just endured losses to VMI and North Carolina. A national ranking was as far away as the moon. And as I recall, somehow or another the sun continued to rise in the eastern sky every morning despite that.

Today, the 'Cats are 3-0 and just hung over a 100 points on an opponent for the first time since VMI last year. Most polls have us at #5 in the nation and we are one of the prohibitive favorites to be in the Final Four.

Tennessee is winding down the innaugural Kiffen season, but the latest round of suspensions apparently have hurt the team more than many would have thought. A beating by Ole Miss didn't help the confidence of the players, and the law of large numbers someday has GOT to come into Kentucky's favor.

You can't ask for much more than to be in a position to control your own fate. Kentucky has it.

Cal nailed it. Even with Darius and Patrick on the floor, this was four frosh and a soph as far as experience, and I might even put Pat back to freshman for the knowledge of the offensive/ defensive philosophies.

WHEN and IF these guys click, it's gonna be sweet. Too much talent to be otherwise. We'll have to be satisfied with some highlight individual efforts to carry this crew for a time.

But right now, as the coach says, this is AAU offensive basketball with looking to the highlight reels. And defense takes a long, long time to jell
with a team...usually when you have a couple of juniors at least that know the system to help everyone else out.

Going to be some long, long nights. I believe by the end of the year this will be a team that nobody wants to tangle with. I realize he is our next opponent's mascot, but being the animal lover that I am, I was very sad to hear the news.

I hope this doesn't give the football Bulldogs any extra motivation to win in memory of him. Some folks may not realize how beloved Uga is with the Georgia fanbase. Uga VII was only 4 years old and was named mascot only two years ago.

I don't know its because Cal doesn't preach it in practice or what. Maybe its endurance. Maybe its a lack of intensity. Probably all the above.

We are having trouble putting mid majors away. Even tonight, the offense is in full force but the defense is letting this team stay in the game. We are not going to be able to survive against top 25 competition.

I don't know if we need some kind of defensive specialist brought in or what. Practice this next week needs to be all about defense.

A guy who was just put in, because somebody fouled out, who hasn't played at all makes a 3 for Villanova (which looked like a 2 on the replay, looked like his foot was on the line but it was never reviewed) with 13 seconds left.

George Mason calls a TO to set up a play to win the game, down 1, and never gets a shot off.

I’ve done some research, and finishing .850 or better would shatter all sorts of records at ESPN.com.

I mean, I’m so hot right now that I might even let my ACC cohort, Heather Dinich, pick for me next week.

Enough with the chatter. Here we go with my picks this week:

Georgia 31, Kentucky 27: This was a classic game a year ago with Randall Cobb dissecting Georgia’s defense and the Wildcats nearly pulling off the upset. Both teams are looking to improve their bowl position, and both teams are dealing with injuries. A.J. Green won’t play for Georgia, and Cobb is questionable for Kentucky. The difference will be Georgia’s ability to run the ball and make enough plays to keep the Wildcats at bay, but it won’t be easy.
