The Latest: Never too soon: Promising big man visits UK — 2/24/2008
Getting a head start in recruiting has taken on an entirely different definition. In the past, if a program wanted to get a leg up on the competition, it had to identify the best juniors in the country and establish...[details]

Have you heard more than just the report by Marc Maggard on this young man, Coldstream? I sure hope it is true and the kid develops as I suspect he will.

This is the report that those in the know have been waiting on that includes insiders like Jeff Drummond. The kid is considered one of the best in his class at this point but like anyone else, he has to remain committed to the work that he put in to get this far and keep at it.

  4. OK...Coldstream says 6'7"....Ken Howlett from A Sea of Blue says 6'9"....while Thomas Beisner from Kentucky Sports Radio also says 6'7". And at one point...seems I remember someone saying he was 6'11" (or maybe that was what they were "projecting" him to grow to).

Anyway....if anyone has some links that have more info on him, that would be great. But Google searches have produced little to nothing...other than discussion boards with people "talking" about him...but no pictures, statistics, bio type info or anything. I'm not sure if he projects to be a C, PF, SF, etc. It would just be nice to kind of have an idea from a scouting perspecting as to what to expect, and Scout and Rivals don't have much of anything on him either......

There is not much out there. According to some premium articles, he could grow to be 7' (has size 19 shoes) but he already has a repotoire of jump shots including 17 footers and can hit the 3 fairly well. The common player people like to describe him as is Dirk Nowitzki'ish. Not saying he is the next Dirk but he looks like he can have Dirk's length and a similar style to his game. He is projecting as PF right now and the bio you see above is from rivals.com. I'm not sure whether or not the "6'9" measurement is accurate.

  6. Vinny Zollo commits to UK

Greenfield (Ohio) McClain standout freshman Vinny Zollo is the latest to give Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie and his staff a commitment.

The 6-foot-8 Zollo made a visit to Lexington today and according to Scout.com analyst Evan Daniels has given the UK staff a commitment before he left town.

Zollo is a member of the Class of 2011.

    More to come....

  7. Zollo commits to Kentucky

Lexington, Ky.- The University of Kentucky landed their fourth recruit in the last seven days when Vinny Zollo committed to the Cats today while on an unofficial visit to the school.

Zollo is a 6’8 freshman forward from Ohio that has drawn praise for his ability to handle the ball and shoot from the perimeter-- skills that not many players his size possess. He is also considered a tough post presence where he is a good rebounder and shot-blocker. This past season, Zollo averaged close to 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocks per game as a freshman playing varsity for Greenfield McClain High School.

The Kentucky staff has been courting the talented freshman for a while now. Zollo first visited UK’s Lexington campus during Midnight Madness late last year before attending a Cats win over Arkansas at Rupp Arena in February.

He is the third player from the Indiana Elite AAU program to commit to Kentucky in the last week as sophomore Dominique Ferguson committed to the program last Tuesday and 8th-grader Michael Avery verballed just two days after that.

Because of the “recruiting pipeline” that Coach Gillispie has started with Indiana Elite, Kentucky should have an advantage over other schools when courting Indiana Elite players in the future.

Zollo is the twelfth player to commit to Kentucky since Gillispie was hired as head coach just over one year ago. The others are Patrick Patterson, Alex Legion, Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins, Kevin Galloway, Josh Harrellson, GJ Vilarino, Dakotah Euton, KC Ross-Miller, Dominique Ferguson and Michael Avery.

  8. Folks, read that last paragraph again. BCG has either signed or gotten a commitment from 12... T-W-E-L-V-E players since he started the job last year. That is one shy of the scholarship limit for basketball team (13).

  9. Coldstream, I know you can't say who the secret recruit commit is (that Mark Maggard was talking about last week) but was this one it? Or is there another that is still yet to come???

BillyClyde gatting 13 recruits in his first year. Unheard of!!! We picked the right coach.

  13. As if we needed more confirmation, Jeff Drummond spoke to his HS coach who confirmed that he has committed.

That is the big mystery! It seems that some know but they have been sworn to secrecy and they are not going to spill the beans.

I wish someone(Coldstream) could just blurt it out. We are feeling like the powerhouse we once were again. S-W-E-E-T!

  17. Hey Coldstream, can I get "WCN recruiting analyst" put under my name so I can feel important too?

    Worth a shot.

Even I can't get that, and I'm Coldstream's co-moderator on the recruiting board, so tough :icon_biggrin:
    Go Cats!

  19. Can anyone tell us when the "mystery" recruit will be announced?

Just wondering, Why are they keeping this quite for?
