Thread: Kentucky the tallest team in basketball

  1. Kentucky the tallest team in basketball

I apologize if this has already been posted, however in the CBS broadcast on saturday they said that UK was the tallest team in America, with an average height of 6'7! Thats pretty amazing! Just thought this was an interesting tidbit of information.

  2. ^ I heard that and it's a BIG factor! gotta love it.

Let's keep on truckin, take care of business! :widcat:
    GO BIG BLUE !!!

  3. Cal mentioned this in the press conference following the Indiana game when asked about the rebounding advantage. But Eric Bledsoe, at 6"1" is the only player less than 6'4" who plays many minutes. But he has a 6'8" wingspan and a 40" vertical--so he plays like he is at least 6'4".

  4. I was not so sure about that average - here's where I thought we were:

    Eric 6' 1" 190
    John 6' 4" 195
    Darius 6' 7" 223
    Patrick 6' 9" 235
    Demarcus 6' 11" 260

Here's what I ended up with 6' 6.4" and 220.6 pounds average. We are a big team, bigger than I thought.

I think they were talking about the entire team.
    Always True BLUE

  6. Maybe CBS was including the bench players?

Any way you look at it, when was the last time we were the tallest team in the NCAA? Was it back to the twin tower days of Bowie & Turpin, along with Alexinas?
Can hardly wait for number 8!

It was the entire team. That still surprised me. Usually some team out there will have a couple of 7 foot projects that will bump up the average.
The one thing about UK's size it that it is talented size. There are no projects and they all contribute.

Alexinas didn't play on the Bowie/Turpin team. He did play on the 1978 team that may have been on average bigger than this years team. They had four 6-10 players,Robey,Phillips,Alexinas and Scott Courts.

The most impressive thing about our height is that we don't have any plodders. Our bigs are not just tall, they're athletes and they get out and run. Our guards and wings are long and athletic too. Makes us a pretty intimidating team on both ends of the floor.

You are correct sir, my mistake. Tom Heitz and Breat Bearup were our other two big guys with the Twin Towers. You are right though, our '78 Championship team was taller.

But don't forget Freddie Cowan on that team too. He wasn't exactly a midget. He was listed at 6'8", but I thought he was taller than that. Maybe it's because I watched him play high school ball when I was in grade school and I was very small! LOL

Forgot about Cowan. 6-8 is about right for him. Lavon Williams was about 6-7 too to go along with a 6-5 James Lee and Jack Givens at 6-4.

I would bet we lead the NCAA in Bicep circumference as well.

  12. UK had the second tallest team in the country last season, and is taller this year.

I was surprised at that! I was thrilled knowing that speed kills and UK has SPEED! Then to see they are the tallest too... man are they going to be tough on March!

We do have some big guys for sure, with an average of over 220 pounds, we are healthy. Gonna pay off for us in those physical games later on!

  15. Saw an interview with CC in which he stated that this is the tallest team that he has ever had including the PRO team that he coached.

  16. got my curiosity going, and I want to validate the claim. Here goes:

    Eric 6' 1" 190
    John 6' 4" 195
    Mark 6' 5" 207
    Jon 6' 6" 195
    DeAndre 6' 6" 202
    Darnell 6' 7" 215
    Ramon 6' 7" 218
    Darius 6' 7" 223
    Perry 6' 9" 207
    Patrick 6' 9" 235
    Daniel 6' 10" 255
    Josh 6' 10" 265
    Demarcus 6' 11" 260

Our average height is just OVER 6' 7" and our average weight is 220.5 pounds. We are a really big team

  17. My gosh, 10 pkayers that are 6'6" or better.

I did not realize that until posted.

    No plodders allowed in DDMO.

Tay Prince had a wing span of 7'. Played like a 7 footer.

With a 6'8" wingspan that EB has, he plays like a 6'8".
