Late December - January is when the previous year's stuff goes on sale, generally. I'm sure Dave can give you a more thorough answer, but I bought mine in early January a few years back and got a really good deal because they were the previous year's models.
Me too. I got a set of Adam's Golf A2's for $200, $250 off, because the a3's came out. I did it with xmas gift cards.
Matt, I always recommend two websites:
3balls.com
RockBottomGolf
Of course, the trick is that you need to know your game, your needs, etc. before ordering. However, if you have a good idea what you want, you can save well over 50% at these sites.
The other thing is new versus used. I have never worried about buying used clubs from 3balls because they are the clearinghouse for several major store chains that accept trades, as well as hundreds of country clubs. Their appraisal system is dead on. The clubs have always exceeded my expectations, some were used, some were demos, and some were simply open box items. And anyway, you have to understand that the first thing you are going to do with shiny brand new clubs is to take them out and hit them into the dirt. Again, used clubs from 3balls is the way to go if you know what you want.
RockBottomGolf is new stuff only and usually has last year's models on sale for 40% off or more and generally has a good selection to choose from. But both of these sites' inventory literally changes daily, so be sure to check back if you don't find what you want the first time.
Finally there's eBay. I'm an eBay seller, and I can tell you that there is a real problem with counterfeit clubs out there - especially the high end stuff. I would not recommend this for anyone who isn't well versed on what to look for.
Please feel free to PM me and I'll be glad to help you further. If you're going to be in the LEX area, we'll get together, otherwise I'll give you my cell number and we'll talk.

Grammar: It's the difference between "feeling you're nuts" and "feeling your nuts".

globalgolf.com is also a good place to buy used and/or new clubs from. They have a lot of open box, slightly used, very used, and some very old models of clubs, as well.
I've ordered "played in an appropriate fashion" stuff from global golf and couldn't tell the club had ever hit a ball.
