As soon as I saw Jessica Lange's first scene, I knew this one was going to be over the top. It will be interesting to see where this goes. So far...![]()
This thread has to end until I can watch the first episode off my DVR. I'll meet you all back here tomorrow!![]()
It had a real throw-whatever-to-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks vibe going on for the full hour.
Some stuff worked, some stuff blatantly didn't... some scary stuff, some unintentionally funny stuff; some campy acting, some great acting (by the excellent Connie Britton of "Friday Night Lights"); a lot of blatant cribbing of classic slasher pictures... and a whole LOT of weird. Like David Lynch without as many psychosexual overtones.
To be honest, I'm not sure if the pilot was really good or REALLY, REALLY bad. One thing is for sure - it's just schizophrenic and strange enough to work for awhile. I will be tuning in for the next episode.
P.S. Great to see Ruth Fisher from "Six Feet Under" back on my TV screen (the old maid).
Interesting show. Not sure how I feel about it yet, BUT, I will be watching next week
Sophomore
All story lines will be answered by the end of the season and all the items in the opening introductory sequence will be answering by the sixth episode I believe.
I thought it was very good for pilot ep. Intrigued more than anything. We'll see how long it can go.
I quite liked it.
KC's right about throwing a lot of stuff against the wall. But I liked the entire idea of it, that this family had moved into the house after a traumatic event, that the husband was this angry nymphomaniac, and that maid...
Definitely going to keep watching.
Watched it last night, and I agree - it was cool.
The character with Downs is a spooky, weird touch. The maid. The next-door neighbor. The patient who has a thing for the daughter. The guy with the burned face and brain cancer. And.... the gimp!
They threw a lot out there and I found a lot of it intriguing. The first episode was good. Now, I hope they can deliver.
The wages of sin is death, but so is the salary of virtue.
I finally got to see it as well. I liked it as well. There is enough interesting story lines mixed in to the frantic, horror that it should have legs into the end of the season. But its hard to tell, I hope they can keep it together.
The only issue I had, and it is a minor complaint is that I felt at one point I was lost in the time line. Between him getting out of the shower and her in the room with the gimp, how did he end up down stairs trying to burn himself on the oven?
And like Will said, or didn't rather....that maid is something else.
Good first episode.
DVR'd it and watched over the weekend. Lots of stuff going on. Almost too much. It will be interesting to see how they tie it all together and see who gets killed. You know someone,at least one, will get the ax. I'll keep watching since its seems intriguing.

What. The. Hell?
It's like if Stephen King directed an episode of Lost.
I liked the second episode, the feel of it, the sort of jarring editing style. It's not so much scary or even creepy as...unsettling. Also like the LA angle and the Black Dahlia references and the whole fading dreams thing.
Really cool show.
This 2nd episode just made me uncomfortable (but kinda in a good way???). I still don't know what to think about this show. I think it is scary, which for me is hard to find. I'm gonna keep watching. But in some ways, I feel like this is gonna be a bad habit. Does that make sense?![]()
Unsettling is a good description. Not so much scary. It's kinda intruquing and worth it to keep watching.
One thing me and my wife keep asking, "why would a psychiatrist have his practice inside his own home?" Just inviting trouble doing that. But that wouldn't have made as good a TV program if he had been a "normal" psychiatrist.

I actually think it might be common. My mother was seeing a therapist once who ran his business out of his home; another relative of ours was going to a woman who operated out of her house.
I think one of the reasons is that the home sort of takes away the antiseptic quality of a hospital--and all the unfcomfortable vibes that come with it.
Speaking of walking through the door...
...SPOILER ALERT...
...my theory about the show is that we might be headed toward a Sixth Sense type of ending. The house seems to be this container (Lost anyone?) for the dead--or something. I think the opening scene where the wife slashed the husband with the knife might sort of end up being the pivotal event for the show.
