  1. Athlon Sports 10 worst head coaches

Guess who made Athlon Sports list of the ten worst head coaches in college football?

Regardless of where Phillips is ranked I'm looking forward to football season and perhaps the team beating expectations.

That list is BS regarding ranking guys who've even yet to coach a game.

Norm Chow is number 10 on the list and has yet to coach a down in a game for Hawaii.

    Agreed.

But, I don't have a problem with Joker on that list. At the same time, I hope UK wins enough this year to get him off the list.

OUCH for Joker......I still hope he has a GREAT season..I like Joker
    Kentucky Wildcats....2012 NCAA Champions

  8. i also saw where our boy joe phillips was ranked DEAD LAST in the list of sec coaches, even Hugh Freeze, who has yet to coach a game was above him. it says alot when a person who hasn't even coached a game is ranked above you.. rflmao. we had a chance to make a Cal like splash relative to our football program for excitement etc, but we blew it last year. Leach would have come as well, he told me at a book signing, both he and his wife loved Lexington. But water under the bridge, we have Joe for another season, which in my opinion, will be his last.

it maybe, however the sentiment and the overall feeling is very valid, joe either goes to a bowl or i think it maybe his last season. anything under 4 games and i think he will be canned. jmo

glad you think so, we shall see what the season holds and see if these lists were truly BS or a harbinger of things to come. It should be interesting, to say the least.

  12. According to the Coaches Hot Seat Website, Joker is #31 in job jepardy, but he's slowly climbing up the charts.

Other Notables: #23 Will Muschamp; #10 Mack Brown; #5 Derek Dooley; #4 Tommy Tuberville

  13. I like coach Dooley, but if the Vols don't make major strides this coming season, I'd say he's a goner.

  14. I'm glad to see Joker getting the national recognition he deserves.

While he may deserve the national recognition, it is going to hurt recruiting which means we are not going to have a very good football team. I hate this, but he made the bed and has to sleep in it. Unfortunately, it is a king-sized bed that the fans are going to have to sleep in too.

That's not the reason I like Dooley. He just seems like a nice person. He definately has a sense of humor.

This is what happens when winning fb isn't a priority, at a school.

  20. Having two bad seasons does not mean you're one of the worst coaches. You may be in over your head. Or, you may have a talent deprived team. Heck, you may have both.

As an example: how many great chefs maintain employment at McDonald's? By the same token, how many bad chefs maintain employment at a 5-star?

I'm no fan of Joker, but to declare him among the 10 worst at the job, is wrong. Put him on a hot seat? You bet. But to declare him among the most incompetent? Ehhh..

I thought Joker bumbled his way through last season and the team didn't respond, until the UT game. And, it might be possible that THAT game becomes the turning point.

I'm not convinced enough to hope for it, but not so blinded by hate to hope against it.

Do I think a more qualified person could have been found? Yes. Was it a question of money? Yes. Was the money ACTUALLY there?.. that's the question.

All in all, the tone of the heading, and the timing of this article is really unbecoming by Athlon. In short, it's wrong. "Hotseat" is one thing, but declaring someone unfit before the first snap, before they diminish recruiting, have a history of staff disintegration, have players leaving the program, have a program with disciplinary issues, or lastly, violate every rule in the book on their way to probation and a show cause... Just wrong.

Bottom line, This is a heading you print in November 2011. Not in April 2012.It's tone and timing isn't one that lends support to an administrative decision late in a season. It's just printed poison for a program to deal with. It poisons recruiting, it poisons morale for current players, and just generally serves no good. Bad Journalism.
