"UK started Midnight Madness"
No, we didn't. There were some other schools that had done it for a couple of years before Joe Hall decided to do it. _____________________________________________________________________________ "I had the world, and it wasn't nothing." M. Ali |

I will agree that there were a few other schools that had practices at Midnight before the Cats but UK (Big Blue Madness) started the mass appeal that it has grown into today. There were no people lining up days before the event at Maryland when Lefty started his practices. It was nothing more than exercise and conditioning with only a few hundred fans until a couple years later.

If indeed we moved MM for Wall's sake, this doesn't make the decision sound like a sound one.
In fact, it sounds downright gloomy in regards to UK's chances. http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=845657 |

I have thought that this kid is a major long shot to be a Cat for a long time. If he's the reason we moved Midnight Madness, I think it's a stupid mistake, especially if other players aren't able to make it because of the date switch.
If, however, it makes more potential targets able to come than I am all for the move. _____________________________________________________________________________ RIP Bill Keightley "Mr. Wildcat" December 17, 1926 - March 31, 2008 Gone but never forgotten |

I am sure they spoke with the recruits before changing the date. Did you ever think, maybe the reason for the change is so that ESPN could possibly broadcast it? Just a thought. Kentucky will be the only game in town (nation) and with the recent contract between the SEC/ESPN it may have been suggested that they move it. This would allow them more exposure and have people talking. Wall was expected to come in that weekend anyway. If they contacted the expected recruits and "okayed" it with them and then contacted recruits that could not make the 17th work because they are going elsewhere (like Favors, etc) and convinced them to come on the 10th....... The speculation and opportunities are endless and I don't see any downside. |

Good thought, I didn't think about that. Being in Columbus, having a job, and not being able to get the time to camp for a few days prevents me from attending. What a nice surprise it would be to have have ESPN broadcast it. As far as Wall and his large, heavy, broken strapped and one wheel that sticks baggage goes, we saw how Coach handled Alex Legion and his loud baggage. Not trying to start another thread by the way. _____________________________________________________________________________ "But to come here and have an opportunity to add to the wall. Can you imagine, they don't put banners up here for anything else except national champions. That's why you want to coach here. We want to compete every year and hopefully add to this wall." Wall is a great talent, but I would almost prefer to have a "strong" 3 year player as opposed to Wall one and done. I am not against "one and done" players, just worried about Wall. Remember a guy by the name of O.J. Mayo. He had some "friends" that were sliding him some gifts and it got the NCAA looking into things. Not that USC actually was involved, knew about it or gave him anything but one thing is for certain, Kentucky does not need anyone looking our direction if he were to come after many believe he is headed to Baylor or Okie State. The other programs could cry foul and make some allegations that put the spotlight on us. There is no player worth all of that. When you have a player that has that many "friends or father figures" advising him, nothing good can come out of that. |

John Wall and UK Basketball is not a good marriage. I've seem him play in High School tourneys and his greatest gift is his quickness. No outside shot, showboat, trys to bring attention to himself. Is a good passer when he decides to give it up.
