Things are tough for Tubby right now.
I hope things work out and ease up for Tubby and players but it appears that things are a bit rough right now.

Tubby doesn't mess around. I suspect those two will get their acts together in time for any lose-able games (Butler is probably their first real challenge). The other kid isn't a big loss if he's out for the year. It will be interesting to see if Tubby has many transfers out at UM. I hope them all the best though. Having a school like Minnesota ranked in the preseason is a pretty good feat.

Tubby is solid coach and he has taken several low talent teams to the sweet sixteen. I hope they do well.

I don't care about Tubby, one way or the other. As long as our paths don't cross, I really don't care what he does.

I was a little upset at Tubby at times during his times at Kentucky but overall, i wish the man well in whatever he does. He's a class act and to this day, i haven't heard anything negative out of his mouth towards the University of Kentucky..........

Tubby was a good man and great ambassador for the program. I said SEVERAL times during his tenure that I think he would have made a great Athletic Director for the program. But a head coach? Well...let's just say I was ready for him to leave much sooner than he did. I questioned as many of his decisions as I did Gillispie. But that's the only time I'll mention Smith and Gillispie in the same sentence...because Tubby was a much, MUCH better coach (no brainer statement there). Problem he had was much the same as the problem Coach Hall had. Coach Hall had to follow Coach Rupp...and Coach Smith had to follow Coach Pitino. Two incredibly hard acts to follow and situations to be placed in. That said, I wasn't a fan of his style, didn't get excited over his recruiting, and questioned many of his in-game decisions and strategies. But I did like Tubby the man. _____________________________________________________________________________ 7 - Time NCAA National Champion: 1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996, 1998 All-Time Winningest Program in Men's D-1 College Basketball History |

After talking to folks who were close to Tubby, i realized that it really wasn't Tubby's decision to leave Kentucky which makes perfect sense.I always felt Tubby had to much pride and was to stubborn to quit and walk away when times were rough. From my gatherings, his wife made the decision to pack and get out of town and if your in Tubby's shoes, what do you do?
![]() He has to go home to her everynight and not us.My biggest knock on him was.. 1. Playing his son which i can understand why ![]() 2.Style of play which i still can't figure out what why he neglected the style that won him a Championship ![]() 3. Recruiting during his last few years though overall, he may have very well of been more responsible for putting more quality NBA players in the league even so more than Rick and John Calipari ![]() ![]() I just scratch my head as to what went wrong during his last days at Kentucky.Perhaps as he become older, he stopped to smell the roses and decided to put more time into his family than into basketball. Who knows... I wish him well............... |

In all honesty, i wanted Billy Donavon from the get go before they hired Tubby. Seemed as if Rick and many others didn't think that Billy was qualified enough at the time to give him the job.For me, i thought his style of play resembled Pitino's the most so i was all on board for Eddie Munster....................... |

I supported Tubby from day one until the day he resigned. I didn't always agree with everything he did, not the least of which was playing Saul. No coach is perfect in every area and Tubby was no different. That being said, I will always wish him well and I appreciate all he did for the UK while he was here. I harbor no ill feelings toward him and his family and wish them nothing but the best.

I agree..... Let's be honest, when Tubby is on top of his game and those eyes started bulging out his head, there may not be a better half coach basketball coach that is out there............ Maybe just maybe, players as well started reading into the neagatives about Coach Smith and that started the downfall. When players stop listening and stop paying attention, it's hard to get anything done out there on the basketball court.I always felt that the group of guys that included Rondo,Crawford,Bradley, and Morris kind of did there own thing from day one.Ramel looked great his last year because Billy Gillispie gave him the greenlight to score which is what i was getting at in another thread. If you get enough shots a game, your going to get points and look good on paper........... |

Great Post! I hate to see threads like this. All they do is blow sunshine up Tubs tale. He dismissed some players big deal. No need in all his supporters saying " Ah what a good man and he did not to too bad. He was a nice person" Gawd... _____________________________________________________________________________ duke is SORRY! |

I'm guessing there were coaches recruiting against him starting with Saul and onward that started to drag recruiting down. I've said it before to others, him leaving was the best case scenario for UK and Tubby both. |

Tubby had his downs as well, even with the players Marvin Stone was going to put a beat down on him in practice one day which is why Marvin sat out to pay him and Kentucky back by going to Louisville.Maybe Tubby was trying to push his buttons to hard during a tough time mentally for Stone![]() ![]() Who knows???? |
