Its not a product of the offense not being good for Patrick or anything else like that. Pat just has to realize he has to be aggressive in order to be effective. The more aggressive he got last night, the better he looked.

I said last night that once he starts playing against guys his size, he'll look 10x better. He's getting the offense, its just taking him some time to do so. I am not terribly happy about his rebound numbers but he did take double digit shots last night. The more he does that, the better he'll get.

I have no worries about Pat. He's still adjusting, and I would expect him to be a little tentative, at times. It's human nature to do so when you are out of your element. As he gets more comfortable with what he's doing, and the hesitation goes away and it's second nature, look out. Also, I heard Cal mention the other day that there is a hundred different ways to play the DDO. If he needs to adjust, he will. That's why you play games this. To learn.

Patterson will be fine. This is a big adjustment even for a kid as talented as him. It won't be long and things will be clicking for him. I could notice a difference from Monday.

can one of the mods delete that post???

that was terrible Patterson has never had hype until this year. He has always been under rated for someone as good as he is. Meeks got all american honors last year and Patterson deserved them just as much but since he didnt score 54 in a game he didnt get the honors. ( not taking anything from meeks just stating)

While I completely disagree with that post, I don't necessarily think it should be deleted. He's not bashing Patrick personally or anything.

But I do love the UK fan who jumps on the "He isn't living up to the hype!" train after two exhibition games, though.

i know i was exaggerating on the delete thing but that is the last thing i expect to hear from a true blue fan, Patterson is one of the best leaders i have ever seen step on the court and i know by the time he leaves he will go down in my books as one of the best to ever play in rupp.

We had this same discussion in this thread after the 1st exhibition game...

Coach is more than willing to adjust his offense and play calling to play to the team's strengths. After seeing Patterson again on Friday and hearing what Cal has said about our team and it's strengths and it being a "post-up team", I am no longer worried at all about Patterson or our team one bit.

Way too early to judge anything afte only two eshibition games, but I will say that I expect Pat's numbers and production to be down this year. The reason I say that is simply because the production from the rest of the team will increase with the serious upgrade in talent. Basically, he has a lot more help this year.

Pat will still be Pat and have his moments, but a lot more of his teammates will this year also. The payoff for him will be in the team's success.

I expect this year to see PPat more intense and less frustrated. There were too many games that PPat's frustration could be seen and felt through the television because he could not do enough to make the Cats win.

For the first time in his college career it will be okay for him to make mistakes and try new things as a player. He has an exceptional cast and coach to help him, now. It won't take long before we are all wondering where this guys came from and wondering what he is going to do everytime he touches the ball.

Last year we were marching to madness. This year the madness is from waiting until March. Thanks Cal!

I MUST respectfully disagree.

This guy's cut from a different cloth than the last guy.
Exactly. Calipari had changed to his DDO only in 2003. Also, as you say, Will, he is already saying that he will "tweak" his offense to have more plays in the post. Coach Calipari's willingness to adapt is definitely a "180" from our previous coach's determination to do exactly what he and his staff had "always" done (and, Realist, I, too, had loved Calipari's comments about his non-ability to teach free-throw shooting ).

There's no worry from this corner. That's partly because I know Coach Calipari is willing to adapt, if necessary, but also because of my faith in Patrick himself. Sure, he's somewhat struggling with the new offense right now, BUT the good part is that Patrick does not concentrate on his individual stats, as Coach Cal has noted. Patrick wants to WIN as a TEAM, period, and with his work ethic and attitude he WILL get his game essentially to where he wants it to be.

I do "feel" for Patrick while he's not yet comfortable in the new offense, though (and that's why those "good hands" are not yet revealing themselves this season), and I thus undertand your post, Drew. No, though, I'm not worried about Patrick Patterson. Patrick Patterson is a WINNER, period, and, again, he WILL be all right. Patrick will emerge a better player, eventually, BUT it is going to take some time.

By the way, I LOVED how the fans had given Patrick the loud standing ovation when he had left the game. We Kentucky fans are SO fortunate that Patrick returned for his junior season. Patrick commands such respect from his coaches, teammates, and us fans, rightly so. John Wall, whose play I love, will be this team's vocal leader on the floor. This team, though, is still very much "Patrick Patterson's team," and I hope none of us forget that. GO CATS! GO PATRICK!!!
