Calipari: this is "a post up team."

I absolutely love the fact that Cal is more than willing to make adjustments in his system to get the maximum performance out of the studs on our front line:

"This is a post-up team, too," Calipari said. "More of a post-up team than I've ever coached in my life. Some games we'll have to try to throw it to the post 50 times. They're big and huge."

Obviously the DDM will be our primary set, but Cal can see the unique situation we have on the post with monsters like Patterson, Cousins and Orton. He is willing to do something he normally wouldn't in order to use the strength of our bigs.

I just love that willingness to make adjustments, and feel that it says a lot about our coaching staff. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

This also helps show that you can be a true post player and still play in Cal's offense because he will make adjustments based on the roster...agree very refreshing to here things like this and actually see it happen on the court...Tubby didn't change his gameplan based on who he had, neither did Gillespie (although both would hint at it)

I remember Gillispie saying in his press conference that he adjusts the style of play according to the talent he has. I think we all saw that wasn't the case.

It's nice to see a coach adjust what he does to the talent he has. The past two coaches wouldn't do that.

Oh, this used to make me so mad with Tubby. Every year, he would say we would run and press more, open things up. Never happened. As for Gillispie, I remember him saying he would play a style that best fitted his team. Then that's the last I heard of it. He was pretty much just an obstinate drunk after that, I guess. You know, Joe B. was one who was set in his ways. But at least he didn't tease us with change.

Play to your strengths... Cal certainly knows this... Perfect use of what may be the best front line UK has had in decades. Maybe, all the way back to Bowie and his crew.

Sure he did. While sitting and continually watching us play man to man while getting torched for 100 points, shaking his head with a smart #$% grin on his face... he managed to adjust his kneeling stance 6 times.

Changing things around to the strengths of your team? Huh, who knew you could do that?

I hope he can adjust. According to rivals we have the number one front court in the country. Odd our back court isn't even honorable mention

This is the biggest and most imposing frontcourt we've had since the '84 team that featured Bowie, Turpin and the great Kenny "Sky" Walker IMO.

Patterson, Cousins and Orton should be a nightmare for most teams to deal with and Cal does know how to utilize a big like he did with Marcus Camby in '96.

Correct. Cal's bread and butter used to be the high/low game. He knows how to use the big guys.

Im confident that Coach will modify his dribble drive system and move the two bigs closer to the basket. ....................

In his post-game, Cal said that he would play however he has to play to win. And that's VERY refreshing.

Some games we are going to have to adjust and pound it down low. Especially since we have the horses to do it.

We are going to simply out-muscle and out-talent a good percentage of our schedule this year.

That's exactly what i heard him say and that was all i needed to know. Coach Cal gets it and im about 99.9% sure that things will work out the way they are supposed to before it is all said and done........

Im just ready for Eric to get back on the court and for Wall to get this 1 game suspension over....... It's all good from there..

And yet our best player is our point guard. Strange.

I agree that Cal may have to tweak things to beat the better teams on our schedule, but let me say this right now: this team will go as Mr. John Wall goes. He will be the most dominant player on the court in 90% of our regular season games.

Big guys are necessary and vital for a championship team, but college basketball teams go as their point guards go. And we have a great one.

I figured the combo of Wall and Bledsoe would be at least top 5. Wall is the most talked about player in college basketball this year.

I thought Joe B. did a great job of dealing with TWIN TOWERS when the concempt was new. He was willing to press full-court when he had the talent. I was always impressed at how Joe B. Hall was willing to adjust to his talent. Maybe I just remember things differently.

Rivals dropped the ball on this one, IMO.

Somebody said the same publication didn't have Wall in the top 3 freshmen in the SEC (Cousins was #1). Whoever wrote that thing needs their head examined...or they need to talk to Jerry Meyer, head of scouting over on Rivals. Meyer will talk about John Wall and LeBron James in the same breath with no irony at all.
