A new UK Wildcat
A new UK Wildcat
![]() Marc Maggard and Jeff Drummond are both reporting that College of Southern Idaho guard Kevin Galloway has given a verbal commitment to the Wildcats staff. The 6-foot-6 Galloway originally committed to USC out of high school in 2006. He averaged 8.8 points a game and led the National Junior College Athletic Association in assists at 8.5. Galloway had also been hearing from Oklahoma, Memphis, Tennessee, UNLV and Oklahoma State among other schools. His brother, Anthony Lambert, told The Cats Pause that his brother hasn't made a visit to Lexington yet but noted, "I've been down there though. He's going to love it." Lambert said he was recruited by UK assistant coach Jeremy Cox during his playing days. Originally from Sacramento, Calif., Galloway averaged 17.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as a senior and led Sacramento High to a 29-6 record and a No. 17 ranking in the state of California. As a senior in high school, Galloway recorded 10 double-doubles in points and rebounds. He was rated the 88th best prospect in the 2006 recruiting class by Scout.com. Named to the 2006 Long Beach Press Telegram Best in the West first team. As a junior, he averaged 11.9 points. As a freshman at USC, Galloway played in 13 games and averaged 12.8 minutes. He scored 2.8 points a game, while also averaging 2.2 assists and 2.0 rebounds for the Trojans. Galloway's season is over with the College of Southern Idaho. He also averaged nine points, four rebounds and 2.5 steals a game, while hitting 52 percent from the field. Here are some descriptions of his game by several folks:

Galloway gives Kentucky the OK
Galloway gives Kentucky the OK
By Martin McNeal - mmcneal@sacbee.com Published 6:10 am PDT Wednesday, March 12, 2008 Story appeared in SPORTS section, Page C3 In some ways, Kevin Galloway's prodigious talents are exceeded only by the opportunities he's receiving to express them. Galloway, the former Sacramento High School star, said he has verbally accepted an offer to attend Kentucky this fall. Galloway is a smooth 6-foot-6 point guard who washed out previously in brief stays at USC and Fresno State. Currently, he is attending the College of Southern Idaho, a community college that he helped lead to a 30-2 mark this season. Choosing Kentucky, one of the NCAA's most storied collegiate basketball programs, was difficult, Galloway said. "I was that close to going somewhere else," he said. "Memphis and Tennessee and Kansas were right there." As always with Galloway, the question about his grades came up quickly. "That's been going well," he said. "I'm solid." Galloway hopes to play in the NBA, and attending college is a means to an end. "I know I am going to get a chance to play a lot of minutes at Kentucky," he said. "There is all that tradition, and it's a basketball school. USC was more of a football school. But most importantly, I'm going to be on the floor." Galloway, who will turn 20 in May, was The Bee's Boys Player of the Year in 2005 and first-team All-Metro in 2006. He is unselfish and makes plays that make his teammates better. "I'm trying to get (to the NBA) as soon as I can," Galloway said honestly. The major flaws in Galloway's game are missing open shots and committing turnovers. He said he has been working consistently on his shooting. "My confidence is growing," he said after shooting 44.8 percent from three-point range and 51.8 percent overall in 30 games for the Golden Eagles. "We've been working hard in the gym on spot-ups, shooting off the dribble and catch-and-shoot." The College of Southern Idaho, often ranked among the nation's best community college basketball programs, regularly blew out its opponents. Galloway averaged just 8.8 points but also 8.5 assists in just 21.8 minutes of action. Additionally, he led CSI in steals. http://www.sacbee.com/prepsplus/story/778864.html _____________________________________________________________________________ |

The Newest Wildcat Kevin Galloway and Other Tuesday Notes
The Newest Wildcat Kevin Galloway and Other Tuesday Notes
by Matt Jones @ 12:12 am. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions ![]() Ask and ye shall receive. For months now, Kentucky fans have wondered who the next Kentucky Wildcat commitment would be and now we know 6′7″ 200 pound, PG/SF Kevin Galloway from a Junior College in Idaho. Galloway is a playmaker, but more in the mold of a pass-first type, a la Derrick Jasper and with the possibility that DeAndre Liggins might not qualify (still an under-the-radar concern), his importance next year may grow. He played for a team in Idaho that put up huge numbers of points, but was more of a set-up man, averaging only 8 himself. But he is long and super athletic, with one person who has seen him telling me “he will dazzle you with the space he can cover.” His defense and rebounding are a strength and he is a hard worker according to his JUCO coaches. He told Jeff Drummond at TCP that he actually committed to UK a month ago after interest from Tennessee, Memphis and Oklahoma State. Out of high school he committed to USC before heading off to Junior College. I havent seen him play (and for the record, I dont think anyone around here has), so all we can do is take the coaches’ word on this one….easier because Gillispie has a pretty good track record worth of trust. I do still worry that UK doesnt have a scorer yet, but Gillispie has been holding onto this commitment for a month and said tonight he is still actively seeking a scoring guard….so one may still be coming. As for big men….well Mark “Every Night is Senior Night” Coury may be running the recruits off. In all seriousness however, this is a good get for the Cats and follows a pattern….Gillispie obviously likes long, athletic guys who can guard people….a recipe for success in his system. Galloway is the latest to fit in that mold. _____________________________________________________________________________ |

Here is some good video on Kevin. I will also include a summary of his parts in the video. I found this summary on a different site, and will include the poster's name, as it is his original content.
Galloway's parts, so you can skip ahead to them. I highly suggest the block to dunk, at 45:50. This post was made by Kentucky_Wildcat. "29:55 - assist 30:50 - block 31:28 - lay-in 33:39 - block, runs back, draws foul 37:25 - assist 45:50 - block, runs back, dunks it 55:16 - assist 56:08 - 3 pointer to end half 1:21:26 - drives and scores 1:22:47 - 3 pointer" Link to the video: http://www.idahosportszone.com/webca...Men_2_2_08.asp _____________________________________________________________________________ Can't wait for number eight! It surprises me that they predicted Jasper to be a superstar in college/NBA prospect. There's still time for that to happen, but when I saw him play in high school I never woulda pegged him to be a superstar player.

I heard out of high school he was said to "have the passing ability of Magic Johnson" but I havent seen it yet. If he were to get the ball and just run I know he could make things happen. Jasper is and will always be a lot like Jason Kidd

Nice stats. Had more than twice as many assists than anybody else on the team. This team looks to have many scoring options. He also had the most steals. Kevin, with his athleticism, should do very well here. I've read that he'll be able to score some if needed. The videos I've watched do support that, although they don't always tell the whole story. He also brings experience at the college level.

Why would he only play 21 minutes a game??

If I'm not mistaken, he plays for the #1 ranked NCJAA team in the country. And they averaged something like 112 points a game. So for a Juco team they have some talent, and with a fast paced offense that they play the players rotate quite a bit. I've only seen 1 game on video of him and it seemed to confirm this. He looks very athletic, skilled, and a solid fundamental player. Also played good defense from what I saw. Don't let the 21 mins a game fool you, it's directly related to the style of play their coach runs. |
