Kiffin shows how to beat Fla.

Thanks to Monte Kiffin, the world knows how to beat Florida. Did anyone notice??? Make them throw DOWNFIELD! put 7 or 8 in the box, man up on the receivers, blitz often and make them go vertical. The downfield pass was non-existent in the game Sat at the swamp. Now I know our DB's are nowhere as good as the vols but it's worth the risk to try!!! The sad think.. well good for us is that we have a better offense than TN. Still a tough game to win but 3 yrs ago, we made believers to those swamp gas fans in the bayou!!!

Correction: he might have displayed how to contain Florida. If you notice, the outcome of the game was never even in doubt. If we use this gameplan to success on Saturday, then we might be able to talk about a gameplan to beat them down the line.

I'm not sure UT has an advantage on us with DB's, although it's hard to argue after Saturdays game. But, I believe you're dead-on about the game strategy .:widcat:

the other part of their plan though was to make their offense drives last as long as possible. chew up as much play clock as possible, run the ball as much as possible.

if I'm correct, UT attempted only like 18 passes in the entire game. at some points though I really questioned their strategy. the ran the ball on a third and 21 or so down in Florida territory just to set up a closer field goal. I'm not sure how Kiffin ever thought field goals were going to beat Florida but it did at least keep them within 2 scores in the 4th quarter.....but yes the game was never in doubt.

I think we need to replicate that "shortening the game" startegy and keep the ball out of Tebow's hands as much as possible. here's hoping that Locke, Smith, Conner, and our OL really come to play. The game will ultimately fall on their shoulders IMO.

Good observations.

I think it would help, a lot, if we can avoid the nickel package. Those three big backers help slow Tebow down, when he comes barreling through a gap in the line.

I suspect Ole Miss's game plan last year in the Swamp looked a lot like Tennessee's this year.

On offense, I'd like to see TE's on both ends, with Conner in at fullback, a few times. Yes, that would be some old-style football, with only one wide receiver spread, but the wing-T is pretty old-fashioned, and that is much of Florida's scheme, regardless of what they call it.

Lane Kiffin still running his mouth

Quote:
Asked whether he was worried about the flu also hitting Tennessee, Kiffin said: "I don't know. I guess we'll wait and after we're not excited about a performance, we'll tell you everybody was sick."

"This offseason the commissioner made a big deal of renewing vows in terms of what we say about other teams, other coaches and other players," Kiffin said. "Obviously Urban feels he doesn't need to follow that. We won't say anything else."

Geez, you'd think after Urban spared you the embarrassment of your life the previous week, you'd just shut up. Evidently not Lane Kiffin.

For the record, I dislike ewe tee even more than I do UF. Having said that, don't kid yourself, UF beat ewe tee as badly as they could. Ewe tee just had a good game plan and carried it out quite well, in my opinion.

Lane Kiffin is going to make major enemies out of every coach in the SEC in quick fashion if he doesn't watch his yapper. Especially Urban Meyer. I get the feeling that there is no love lost there, anyway.

Eh, I don't think UF played all that well. While the early predictions of beating them by 60 were probably inaccurate, they probably could have laid a hurt on them if they wanted to.

So UF didn't because they are nice?

I guess UK could have done the same to UL if they wanted to but they didn't because they were just being nice is that right?

Not the word I would use for it, but I do think you got off rather easy. You don't think Florida could have beaten you by 3 or 4 touchdowns if they really wanted to?

Kiffin is a jerk. Monte' is a very good DC. They have some very good talent on defense and they were ranked 4th last year nationally if I recall. Crompton is 'turrible' so UT did what they had to do to have the best chance at winning. shorten the game and hope their defense gives them some opportunities, via turners and such, while sticking with that is UT's sole strength, running. UT gave Florida their absolute best, and came up short. That is the story of that game.

If Lindley is 100% and we can contain the run and maybe get a few turnovers, we have a shot. Our offense is better than UT's overall.

I'll give credit to your defense because it was pretty damn good, but I thought UF played rather conservatively. Urban Meyer said as much.

Our offense took the third quarter off due to turnover.

I wasn't upset that Florida didn't destroy and embarrass UT. Sure it would have been nice to humiliate Kiffin but that wasn't my issue with Saturday. I was upset because they just didn't look very good. I have no idea if it was because of the flu bug running around or what. Not only did the offense look sub par, but the defense was getting blown off the ball. Yeah, sure, they only gave up one TD but UT was having there way with the running game. Pretty inexcusable if you supposedly have a defense with all NFL players. But don't get me wrong. I was happy with the win. Kiffin legitimately thought he was going to win that game and when he realized he wasn't, his face with priceless.

Florida is notorious for coming out of the gates sluggish and looking average. Hopefully that is another case this year.

I don't think the Gators are going to go undefeated. The loss of Harvin will be too much. I have a serious Harvin Hangover.

That game reminded me of when UK played UNC Tubby's last year. We slowed it down, pounded inside and generally uglied up the game. We managed to keep it respectable but there was never any doubt who was going to win the game. I hate it when coaches play like that. Sure UT didn't get blown out, but they had zero chance of winning either. If I am a UT fan I am not particularly encouraged by the performance, but I would get used to it because I think you are going to see it a lot this year. They have a very good D and a very bad O. They are not going to get blown out but I also don't think they are going to win more than 8 games either.

Play Big or Don't Play At All! Take chances and risk it all, were expected to lose by 24 I think but if we win....theres always an IF and we should test it, if it takes using players on both sides of the ball do it, I just want this game and say we put all in for the game! Go Cats!

maybe you're right

Crompton was 25-32 against Western, but only 13-26 against ucla with 3 ints. 11-19 against Florida with 2 ints.

Kiffin might not be having him throw much but I guarantee you the game plan against Florida was to cut down on their possesions

trust me they tried and failed. What did Tebow want to throw that int....did he want to fumble the ball ???

Urban Meyer is just as much a shoot off your mouth kinda guy as Kiffin is. He'd say anything that makes his team look better to the voters. He also said he had guys with the flu (referring to their sub-par performance).......yet he played them. Don't bring up junk like that after the fact , Urban. The guy is a hater and a self-activist and will not hesitate to say anything that makes another team (say...Michigan 2006) look bad, or himself and the Gators look better.
